Hi, welcome to the forum. First, it would help us a lot to be able to you if you could fill out your profile page with info. on what machine (exact name on top of it) you're using, what mask your using, and the pressure settings (if you know them), plus any other information you can give, such as how long you do sleep most nights, whether you get up overnight, whether you do feel better at all the next day, or any other problems. Without knowing those, it's hard to guess at answers. One thing I will tell you is that most people who've had the surgery (UPP) find that while it seems to help in the short term, within the year they're back to needing Cpap again. There are very many different masks out there, so we might be able to help you find a better one, but need some idea of what you have now.

I don't know how long you have been on cpap but keep trying. It was almost 4 months before I kept my mask on for a full night -- I would take it off in my sleep. But eventually the day will come when you will awaken and find you have finally kept it on all night . It is worth the effort.. just keep on keeping on. I tried several different masks, but found for me, the Swift was the only one.. and still is. I am now using the Swift LT. But everyone is different when it comes to masks .. the perfect mask for one may be torture for another... My M.D. gave me lowest dose of clonazepam (sp?) for initial use.. I only took it for a very short few weeks..Nowdays, I take melatonin if I feel I am not getting sleepy toward bedtime. (Sometimes I cannot resist too much coffee!)

Masks are so personal that it is hard for one to guage how a mask is going to work for them.

I have used several masks and have settled on the Headrest/Aura. Babs, another forum member, uses the NAII. There are some test drives around and what that does is let you try a mask prior to purchasing it. You contact the forum member that is running the test drive and have your name added to the list. When it is your turn you are responsible for the postage, receive the mask, try it for a week or so, clean it and send it to the next in line. A great way to try different masks without a lot of cash outlay.

If you don't mind I would ask that you turn your caps off. When you write in all capital letters that is the same as shouting, but in writing. Thanks.

Good luck in your quest for the perfect mask.

You still need to go to control panel - profile and enter your equiptment and how you use them Pressure ect, in text not Iconny. Unless you just like typing it all in every time you post. It gives a better chanch to help people.

Keeping the mask on, is mind over matter, you have to train your main that it doesn't matter. Wearing the mask with the XPAP on while watching T.V. helps some people. Jim

Delilama, if you need a laugh and have time to read, do a search on the word humor and browse some old posts. Good for a chuckle or two. About the masks, can you be more specific about what kind of mask trouble you are having... leaks, shifting out of place, discomfort? It took me quite a while to get used to this foreign thing on my face. Took it off in my sleep frequently. But the time came when it was a non-event (pun not intended but it works, so hey) so don't give up yet. You've been sleeping bare-faced for a lot of years so give it a little time to feel familiar. Do tweak any problems, then the familiarity will come in time. If you have to take a little something while you're getting used to it, so be it. Getting your 4 hours a night in for compliance is a start, but for your health shoot for all the way. It's worth it. Once you get a taste of good sleep, you'll want more. And welcome to the forum.
Kathy
