How does one erase data on a smartcard?

Post by Twilightcat » Thu Dec 11, 2008 8:26 pm

Hello All,

Could someone please tell me how to erase all data on my smart card. Hopefully that will allow it to work again. If not, I'll buy a new one.

Thanks,
Twilightcat

Go to the website http://www.mycpap.org and down at the bottom of the web page is the file to download http://www.mycpap.org/downloads/CardUti ... taller.zip. The link should work, I used it yesterday. Unzip the file and run it and you will be able to format the smartcard. I just got done formatting one and the utility works great.

Good Luck

Dale

You can erase with Encore Pro but that may not fix you problem. You need that utility to format which should fix it.

deerslayer, When my insurance pays off my m series machine, so that compliance checks don't matter, I will do the same. I only used it to format a card that came with a used machine I bought for a backup.

deerhound, that's where the software becomes invaluable. just make a printout of your compliance page . tim

You can "erase" it with any magnet...

But you'll need to re-format it in order to use it. The formatting will also destroy (erase) the data currently on it.

Hello,
Thank you for your responses, but I'm sad to say I'm having frustrating problems with this. I've been trying the mycpap.org files, but they don't work , unzip, or run for me at all. A box says that my Winzip evaluation period has expired. My husband, who is very computer literate, tried to help me, and bought the $29 Winzip with his credit card, and even that doesn't register or download.

If anyone has any insight into why these things aren't working for us, please feel free to respond. Thanks.

I think I'm going to purchase a new smartcard from cpap.com.

Thanks,
Twilightcat

I'm assuming you have a windows computer - try this for unzipping http://www.pkware.com/download-software/free-unzip#
If not pm me with your e-mail address and I will send the unzipped card formatter files so you can use it.

Hi Dale,

We have a Windows XP computer. I don't understand much about computers, but I will show my husband your post when he comes home, and he will help me.

Thank you very much for your responses. We appreciate it.

Thanks alot,
Twilightcat

Perhaps sharing the error message(s) and sequence of events will help more.

To unzip, I'd recommend winrar ... has a 40 day free trial ... handles zip files and a bunch of other compression formats as well ..

fyi....Meaning to those who may read this in the future while trying to solve their problem.

If you have any version of Windows AFTER Win98 you will not need any 3rd party software to unzip any files.

Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 98, and Windows 95 do not include the ability to uncompress a .zip file. However, Windows Millennium Edition (Me) and Plus! 98 includes this capability.
