Snores

Post by Jcochran » Sun Nov 23, 2008 8:04 am

Isn't CPAP treatment supposed to eliminate snores? I have been experimenting with different pressures, trying to figure out what works best, but the snores is never a constant. I can use the same pressure for a week, and some nights my snores is bad, others it is good. Any input on this? Thanks

We all sleep differently each night, so a pressure that works well one night may not work as well the next night.
That might be one reason to go for APAP.
And yes, you should aim to completely eliminate snores if you can, but a few here and there won't be too bad.

Not necessarily. It might depend on whether they frequently precede Apnea/Hypopnea events, but if you can get your AHI low and there's still some residual snoring.....forget about it. You didn't say what your snore index was or your AHI, but to me, getting the AHI down comes first.......and the snores may follow in time.

"Snores" can be whatever sounds the machines interpret them to be. Nasal congestion can significantly increase the snore index.

Also, as you probably know.......snores and leaks can drive an APAP crazy and wreck your sleep.

Den
Agreed, Den! I've seen "snores" near the time I wake up or go to sleep and recall making a sound (not snoring). So if you come partially awake during the night and make some sound(s), it can show up as a snore. Like Den said, AHI should tell the story.
