What is the norm for seeing a difference in your sleep?

I don't know if it is totally psychological or what, but the very first night of CPAP treatment had me feeling way better upon waking up in the morning compared to the half-dead zombie slapping at the snooze button 20 times or so and then zoning out in the shower trying to wake up. It's like night and day. i might even be able to retire the second alarm clock I keep across the room and the timer that turn my bed lamp on.

Congratulations!! You are one of the lucky ones. A lot of people feel better right away, and some of us are still working on it a year later. The important thing is not to give up and to ask for help. There are the most amazing people on this board. Total strangers who take the time to work with you and help you through whatever issues you may have.

You will do well. Changing doctors was a smart move.

It has been one year for me,and I still feel groggy in the afternoon and early evening.I have no problems sleeping with my mask or anything else but still waiting to feel better...

That sounds great! I wish it were like that for me, taberge. I do feel better lately, but it's a way more subtle difference than the one you describe.

I think I've got more tweaking to do--with both my BiPAP and my day-time behavior. Then again, I rarely have felt as bad as you seem to have in the mornings.

It is apparently not very common to receive immediate benefits from CPAP from what I've seen on this site. It does happen though.

I noticed an incredible difference the morning after my sleep study. I made arrangements to take the day off work after the study since I knew I would be exhausted from lack of sleep. But I never felt so alert and full of energy in my life (and only on cpap for about 3 hours). I marveled over this new feeling all the way home. I couldn't wait to get the CPAP but had to wait 2 long weeks to see the ENT for the results.

It's been over 2 years now since I started with CPAP and there is not a day goes by that I don't notice it's benefit. My worst day on CPAP is by far better than my best day without.

Results for me were immediate too. My 2nd sleep study I used the cpap and I felt so good the next day...so much energy. I had to wait 2 months to get my machine as the VA was slow in processing the sleep study. I wish I had this machine years ago. Only problem I have had is when I had a cold and had to blow my nose alot.....couldn't use the machine which added to the misery of being sick.

I think it is all relative. For me it was immediate. I went from half-dead to superman in one night ... but now superman has become routine and anything less is unacceptable.

Felt a major diference the first few nights that has held up over these two months. Like I went from zero to 80% overnight and the last 20% is a longer process

after the first few nights

could sleep 8 hours without waking up 10 times
night time heartburn went away
waking up soaked in sweat went away completely
waking up in the morning feeling 8 hours jetlagged disappeared
morning headachs went from a freq of every other day to one per 30 days
afternoon sleepiness down by maybe 75%

I feel lucky, blessed, and very thankful.
