Modifying Ultra Mirage FFM

Post by john_dozer » Tue Nov 04, 2008 9:30 pm

Has anyone had any success with modifying the 'tilt' between the forehead piece and the lower nose & mouth piece?

Basically the lower portion of the UM FFM seems to be almost ideal for a good fit. However, I can't get the head piece tilted forward enough. So I have sealing problems at the sides and bridge of the nose. Ideally I need about one more indexing or a little less to get the seal I need.

I was contemplating modifying the forehead pads, or replacing them with something else.

Darn my neanderthal brow!

Hi John - did you have a chance to look at my photos showing how I modified my nasal pillows ? (used tape, 'O'-ring seals and a cork plug !) I can understand if leaks occur because of different face shapes BUT I can't understand when we buy expensive masks, they come with manufactured faults like too loose mask parts. Anyway, I am glad that I fix my nasal pillow leaks for good ! Good Day - Marietjie

I've often thought we need a larger brow pad that you can heat and form to your unique head and pad to individual preference.

Perhaps the DME's could be more useful if they had a part in shaping masks for a custom fit. And who decided that the mask should pivot off of the chin anyway. My face is not a flat surface between the chin and forehead, yet the only adjustment is making it do a push up via the forehead. So why not design it so it is truly adjustable to each face with even pressure?
