Question about Quattro

Post by DoriC » Sun Nov 02, 2008 10:30 am

Can someone tell me where the soft flap around the nose goes, tucked in or out over the bridge of the nose? This is first time my hubby is wearing it. He got a small according to the online measurements, although he wears a Med in the UM. The small seems to go a little lower on his nose so that's why I'm not sure about the flap. There was some small eye leak initially so I had to adjust the knob, I had it all the way out as per instructions. Nice fit around the cheeks and mouth. I have 30 days to exchange it. thanks.

You always make sure the seal is rolled in. That way, the air from the machine seals it from within the mask and (ideally) it will expand the seals to fit to the face. If the seals were "out", they wouldn't seal worth a darn.

Den, I kind of realized the answer after I questioned it, but it turns out that the mask is Size Small (another DME guessing game!) so it just wasn't fitting right no matter how we adjusted it and the nose flap kept popping out. He wears Medium in UMFF and ComfortGelFF but she said that Q runs big?? He wore it for an hour for a nap and his face was messed up for a few hrs after. So we'll be returning it tomorrow and may have a hard time exchanging it for Med because when we got this one she said "we really have too many masks already and really aren't due for a new one until Jan".(Said with "attitude"). We're doing pretty well now on leaks with the UM now that Carbonman suggested the teflon fix, only fair with the CG and ComfortFull from sleep study, but at least we have backups in case. Thanks. Dori

Dori, have you tried using the silicone putty (like Mack's brand)? I have the Quattro FFM and was having a lot of leakage problems and tried the putty as suggested on this site, and it has helped a LOT. Sometimes I put it all around the mask and other times I get away with having it just on the bridge of nose area.

The problem wasn't with leaking on the Quattro, the mask was too small for him and just crushed his face. If we can exchange it for a Medium we will try the Mack's if needed. Do you put it right along the edges of the frame? We tried it on the UM once but couldn't get it to stick, then we found out about the teflon tape and that fixed the problem.
