Can't Let the Moron Adjust His Own Machine?

Post by amosalonzo » Fri Oct 31, 2008 8:32 am

Hi. I just joined as a registered user. I have been using CPAP therapy for 9 years, the last 7 of them on a Respironics Bi-PAP machine. I am now about to get a Resmed VPAP Auto 25. I was very excited about the auto-titrating capability and the fact that the machine can go above the 20 cm limit of my current device. I have gained weight since my last (and second) sleep study about 4 years ago, and I don't believe the 20cm is doing the job.

I was very surprised and annoyed when I went to pick up the new machine yesterday, when the respiratory therapist told me that she was going to set it up as straight Bi-PAP at 20 over 16, since that's what my last presecription called for. (I had since adjusted the exhalation pressure on my Respironics Bi-PAP to 18 because I was blowing off air too quickly at 16 and was hyperventilating.

So now I am trying to get an appointment with my doc. Hopefully he will not demand a new (expensive) sleep study.

Now, to the real point --->> Does anyone here know how to get to the clinician menu on the Resmed VPAP Auto 25? I certainly understand that making your own adjustments requires a great deal of care and a conservative approach.

I can't answer your question but if you persist a little someone here will be able to tell you how to adjust your machine.

No need to get annoyed, by Federal regulation the RT can only set the machine according to the prescription.

I am sure someone here will soon give you instructions on how to tweak your settings. I hope you have monitoring software so you can observe the effect of settings changes.

jnk, are you saying that the RM VPAP Auto process is the same as the one posted for the S8 in the link you provided?

amosalonzo, I think what jnk was doing by posting that link, was to direct you to the initial steps for accessing the clinical menu on practically any ResMed machine:

Once a person gets into the clinical menu, the actual menu items will be different, depending on the model being used.

Here are a couple more links that might be useful to you -- even though the discussion was not about your particular model:

Thanks, Rested Gal. Do you know of a post that explains what the data setting items mean (e.g., AHI)?

Never mind, Rested Gal !! I just browsed the Our Wisdom section and found your previous info on my question. Sorry.
