Hello,
Is it possible to have symptoms like aches and pains from apnea but not tiredness ? Or is being tired a sure thing for untreated apnea ?

My NonREM apnea is normal. It is only too high when I am in REM or probably deeper sleep (I didn't get past REM in my sleep study). I was rarely tired. I had the sleep study because of snoring.

I didn't think I was tired, either. My issue was inability to lose weight when restricting calories and exercising like a mad woman over 8 months. After the first few days, thought, I realized how tired I had been feeling.
I almost always woke up in a fog, but it got better during the day. I almost always took a nap during the evening news at night. Now I never do either of those things.... You might be more tired than you think.

Re: Apnea without being tired ???
My husband has OSA. He insisted that he wasn't tired and was not affected by his OSA. After a few months on CPAP, I saw a huge difference. His skin color is no longer pasty and white in the morning--it's normal. He stays awake long enough to talk to me at night, rather than sitting down and falling asleep in "his chair". Pre-CPAP, anytime he wasn't moving, he fell asleep. Not so anymore! He has never been a 'crabby' person, but he is much more talkative than he was pre-CPAP, and much more cheerful. In short--you may not feel your tired because you are so used to feeling this way. It's the way you've been for a long time (in my husband's case, around 20 years!) and perhaps the apnea worsened gradually over time, so you might not even realize that you are abnormally tired. But once you begin treatment, and if you stay with it, you might feel differently.
Good luck to you,

You may be confusing apnea with something else - you don't have aches and pains (necessarily) with apnea, but you do with Fibromyalgia and possibly with Chronic Fatigue syndrome or other things. What other symptoms do you have?

I think it is possible for apnea and the resulting sleep disruption to lead to aches and pains. The body needs sleep to recover each night. During 2007 when I could barely breath due to congestion combined with apnea I developed very bad aching muscles. I didn't have them before. It may turn out that the pain of Fibromyalgia is somehow due to the related sleep problems.Julie wrote:You may be confusing apnea with something else - you don't have aches and pains (necessarily) with apnea
