The DME threw the SETUP DIRECTIONS away

Post by Mr Tired » Fri Jul 29, 2005 5:22 pm

I picked up my Remstar Pro 2 C-Flex today. The DMe took a manual out of the plastic & threw it in the trash can. I asked him what that was. He said it was the setup directions & they were not allowed to give it to me.
What a BUMMER. Is this right?????? Can he do this?????

Supposedly the DME can get in trouble if he gives you the setup directions. Messing with your pressure on the CPAP can be unwise if you don't know what your doing.

People on this board know the directions (as do I, but I'm not wanting to get sued by some crazy board member ), and will help you out if you ask.

Are you or your insurance company renting the machine or did you buy it outright?

If you rented the machine they only have to provide what the rental agreement says that they will provide to you.

If you bought it outright, you should have bought it from any of a number of online places that don't remove the setup manuals.

He probably took them out of the trash after you left and has them for sale on EBAY.

Mr Tired: I suggest you ask Snoredog to help titrate your machine for you. After all, he knows you best!

Welcome to the world of dealing or not as you choose, DME's!!!! My first one lied all the time to me. Little did she know that I KNEW she was since I had obtained info from this board and had done research on my own.. I ended up switching DME's and am now with a great one. I didn't want a lier telling me what I needed and what I didn't, including a data-capable machine. She told me they were usless because SHE did not have any programs to read the data. She probably didn't because none of the machines they had were data capable. In fact by now I am sure I know more than she ever dreamed of.

This same DME also took the 2 sizes of nasal pillows out of my NEW Box of an Opus mask. I called her on this and she said that "oh if she knows a patient doesn't need but one size of pillow she takes out the others" Stealing is what I called it and got my other 2 pillows back from her.

Before anyone else wastes time offering advice, note that this thread is several years old. It was resurrected by SPAM.

Any advice is still useful, just maybe not to the original poster. .

Regards,
Bill

The most EVIL DME in the world (APRIA) did the same thing to me when they sent me a machine I did not order and my doctor did not prescribe.

I have CIGNA and they purchase the machines..... when APRIA shipped the machine to me they actually opened up the box and removed the set-up instructions.

But they had not set up the machine to my titrated pressure anyway.

It took an entire year to get that entire fiasco straigtened out.

I ended up purchasing my own machine with my own money from CPAP.com.

It came within 3 days packed up all nice and neat and the box was unopened AND had the set-up instructions in the box.

There is NO law which says the DME cannot give you the setup instructions.

It is merely a way to force you to pay them even more money to "adjust" your machine.

Have no fear... as stated earlier... the many nice intellegent folks on the forum will help you.... just ask. I am sure someone knows how to "set" your particular machine parameters.

Tim

DMEs are a BUSINESS.......................

Let's hear YOUR opinions as to how they should make a profit on the sale of a CPAP device.

According to you guys, they shouldn't be allowed to charge for anything. And if you respond, please don't use terms like "fair" profit or "reasonable" price.

How about letting this post die? It was obviously revived by a spammer's posting.

That said, should anyone need a connection, a Google search gives this resource:
