Card Reader?

Post by LA157M3 » Mon Oct 20, 2008 9:30 am

I have a Respironics BiPAP M-Series Auto machine with smart card.

1. Does anyone know if we can just use ANY smart card reader found all over eBay...or does it need to be a specific type of reader?

2. Once the reader issue is answered, what type of software is needed to interpret the data for the smart card?

Thanks for any recommendation!

The following link contains the items that will work for your machine. The ONLY card reader that will work with the software and data cards for the Respironics machines is the Mako/Infineer DT3500. There's supposedly a PCMCIA reader (from the same company) called the LT4000 (for laptops), but they're few and far between.

The reason they're the only usable card readers is because Respironics has written a special driver for this interface combination......card/reader/software.

The first one listed hasn't had any stock since about April and apparently isn't responding to e-mails, etc. (I gathered from the comments left on the site by people who have been trying to order from them)

Out of curiousity I put in "Mako DT3500" and got the following links:

Mako DT3500 USB (Infineer)– $49.00
http://www.securetech-corp.com/mako_dt.html

Mako DT3500 SmartCard Reader – USB - $54.00
http://www.cpap-supply.com/Mako-DT3500- ... dt3500.htm

Infineer (Mako DT3500) Card Reader from https://www.cpap.com - $139.00
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/Respir ... r-USB.html

I'm told CPAP.com will price match, if you can prove the lower price. Go for it!

Cheers,
Barbara

I can vouch for Securetech, they are wonderful. I ordered my card reader in July this year. Hong Kong definitely out of stock, but Securetech responded promptly, kept in contact with me, answered queries asap, and shipped the card reader to Australia for a very reasonable price and with very little delay.

In getting the DT-3500, make sure to get the USB Flavor one! The other will work but serial ports are for the birds. Jim

One version is for Laptops, a card, but very costly!

Thank you VERY MUCH for all the advice and responses. I ordered the one from SecureTech today. Once it's in I'll give it a go and report back the experience.

Thanks again, y'all
