I finally got it - I've just been staring at it.

Post by packitin » Fri Oct 17, 2008 7:20 pm

I told you friends that I would tell you if I ever got the Autoset II with EPR I've been waiting on. Well, I have it (my study was done on Aug 4). All I can do is sit on the bed and look at it. Tonight will be my first night, and I probably can't sleep from just the thought that I have it at last.

My hope is that things will go better. I've been on a downhill slide it seems. With the m-series and c-flex, I was not doing so well. My insomnia became worse, my AHI was going up (7 day average is 3., my leak is 42, and I was out of compliance with only averaging 3 hrs per night with cpap. My pressure is running at 9.8.

I get to sleep, but can't stay asleep. Off would come the mask, and I would try to sleep without it. I've been a zombie for about 3 weeks, probably sleeping about 4.5 a night on average. I could not even enter a post here because I was too tired to turn on the computer.

The doctor has now placed me on Temazepam (30mg tablets). Even at that one pill would not get me to sleep, so I had to take another one. Last night I sleep about 5 hours, but I'm still tired.

Now, if I can figure out how to use this machine, maybe things will go better. I'm too tired to read the manual.
I would be interested in any suggestions that you have to offer.

thanks,
Jay

Hello,
I appreciate the responses. I used the machine for 4.48 hrs. last night. For me, that's good. I like it!
I'm still learning to work with the settings. Don't know what the AHI reading was. The pressure range is 4 -20 and the EPR setting is on 1
Also don't know what the leak rate is. Since its after noon here now, I can't find it for last night. But things are looking up. I feel fairly good today - better than the last few days. Thanks for the encouragement. And Sleepdoll, you are a real doll for sure.
Jay

That's great, Jay! Personally, I'd want to have the minimum set higher than 4 cm. I'd want at least 6 or 7 for the min (and would leave the max at 20 ) if I were using an autopap, but that's just me.

The following threads are discussing the S8 Elite, but the same initial steps are probably used for accessing the clinical menu of the Autoset II:

Good luck with the new machine, Jay--it sure sounds as if it's helping already. I hope I'll be staring at--and using--a new machine soon, too.

Hi there. I've been using a cpap for over 5 years. It took me a long time to really get used to it, but it was a little easier every week. At this point I don't even use the ramp because I am so used to the pressure (feels like I'm not getting enough air when I'm ramping now). Hang in there. It really is a strange thing to get used to, but eventually it will just be part of the routine like pulling up the blankets. Good luck! Barb

That is awesome Jay! Hope your feeling more improved as each day goes by. I am praying my doctor will write a script for this machine..

This machine turned everything around for me. I went from getting 1 hour max on my old m-series to 6 hrs a night.

to access daily pressure, leak rate, AHI, AI, HI:
Press bottom arrow and right button for 3 seconds --> you'll see Clinical Menu Welcome
Press Menu --> Results --> Efficiency Data
in Settings here you can also change EPR, min/max pressure, cpap/auto, select mask type, tube length & humidifier

Best of luck!

Jay,

Give us an update. How are you doing. I have a new machine, too and know how hard it is to get used to it. Hang in there and DON'T take you mask off no matter what!

Good for you!!

What are the differences that made for such a turn around.

Thanks again for the help. I found the links and copied down many nice directions for my Resmed. Thanks to Slinky, Rested_gal, SleepyDoll, IrishPeacock, Michele, Nightjar, Georgio, OutaSync, bdp522 and many others. I couldn't get along without you. Its inspiring to me to have so many friends who give of their time and knowledge to help others. I'm going to do fine with this new machine. This may be just a loaner, but they will have to come and wrestle it away from my dead body to get it back. I'm keeping it! I may be skinny, but many a man has underestimated me and been sorry.
See ya,
Jay
