Sore Nose

Post by profish » Wed Oct 15, 2008 8:20 pm

I have been using an Optilife for about the last two months. Never experienced any real problems with it until the last week or so. About a week ago I woke up one morning with my nose extremely sore inside my nares. I used Ayre for a couple of days and switched back to my old Profile Lite mask. The nose got better over a couple of days. Last night I tried the Optilife again and woke up this morning once more with the agravating, painful rawness in my nose. Anybody got any ideas?
If it wasn't for my Marine son being deployed I would be sleeping good!

Yeah, winter is coming on. I'll bet you need more humidity. I had that same thing happen to me. I upped my humidity, and the sores inside my nose healed up.

If that's NOT the case, then I just don't know what to tell you. Maybe it's time to try another mask? I personally can't stand nasal pillows masks - they rub my nose and upper lip raw. I use a nasal prongs mask, and get little to no irritation. I run a free test drive for the Nasal Aire II. See my signature block for links to more info.

Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Get a ffm. I went through your exact experience.
It was a mechanical problem, I believe, with how the pillows
fit my nose. Just didn't work.
Add mouth breathing and gluing my mouth shut =ffm.

2 months and 5 masks later, I'm a happy 'pap'er.

I have been on Cpap for several years and had switched from a Profile Lite to this Optilife only a couple of months ago. I don't have a problem mouth breathing, never have so I thought the Optilife would work and it did really good for a while. I live in East Texas so humidity is not a real problem, however I sleep with the humidifier going to the point where it is just short of rainout. I keep a hybrid handy for the days where I have severe nasal congestion which happens during certain parts of the year, usually when the pine trees are blooming. I understand they have come out with a new nasal cushion for this mask that replaces the pillows. I might see if I can find one of them and try it. The Optilife is real light, only weighs about 4 ounces so you never really notice it on as long as it works right. Thanks for all the input!
