resmed S8 autoset

Post by andreab » Wed Oct 15, 2008 5:18 pm

I'm a true mewbie, just picked up my machine from the RT at the DME. The RT set the machine at CPAP and kept all the secret codes so I can't switch to the APAP setting. Can some please share the info

That request gets posted regularly

Do remember to write down any settings when you go in for the 1st time as it is very very embarrassing going back to the RT to get him to restore it. Also your doc may be wanting to get specific data from the machine in order to fine tune your therapy.

To get into the clinical menu you

1) Hold down the 'down' button and the 'right' button (of the group of 4 in the middle of the front panel) for 3+ secs
2) When clinical menu shows, press the button to enter it (the LCD displays words for what the left right buttons do)
3) When in the clinical menu - the up down buttons change values - the left right buttons change menu selections

Exiting is usually achieved by pressing the right button when the word exit appears above it.

Good luck & do be careful

Well, if you are a newbie you are a bit premature on wanting to change your therapy settings. However, until you get a couple of weeks under your belt if you want to access your nightly data wait 15 minutes after you turn the Vantage off in the mornng and get up. Then press the Left and Right buttons and hold for 3-4 seconds. Efficacy Data will appear in the LCD screen. From there on its pretty self-explanatory: Left button to Enter, Right button to Exit, Down button to proceed to the next screen, Up button to return to the previous screen. You have to do this BEFORE NOON. These devices work on a 24 hour, noon to noon, internal clock and at noon the previous night's data rolls over into the total averages. If the above button combo doesn't work its because access to the Efficacy Data was not ordered by your sleep doctor and thus not provided by the DME supplier.

I am trying to get this machine myself, it sounds really good! Were you able to change it over to auto yourself?? Or does the clinician have to do that?? I am thinking some features they could lock out on the machine?? Newbie here as well.. Just wondering...

You have full access to the machine via the Clinical Menu... including switching the machine from CPAP to AUTO and vice versa.

One thing I should point out... when engaging the Clinical Menu on this machine initially it looks like all you are doing is setting the humidifier to warming up. Just need to hold those buttons long enough for the Clinical Welcome screen to display.

Something else that I learned through the folks here and through my own trial and error... don't be too quick to change the settings. Allow yourself to settle with the changes for a few days and record the results so you can see what effect the change is having.

Good Luck!

Michelle,
Don't get the S8 Autoset. Get the new S8 Autoset II. It has an upgraded software algorithm that assist the EPR to work better. It is the newest and latest model.
Andreab,
I agree with the idea of settings. Leave them alone. I have an AutoSet II and have full access to the clinician menu. However I am currently set in straight CPAP mode at 14 cm of H2O. No ramp time. No EPR. I'm taking the whole 14 cms the entire time, right away. Other than the fact that I didn't like the EPR and turned it off, that is the way my DME set it up. I am into it 26 days and figure I will go at least 60 days before I mess with the settings. I want to really see what the prescription will do for me.
Get the ResScan software so that you can see your detailed nightly readings are for a while to see how you react to your therapy....That will be huge for you to determine your next step....

What did you not like about the EPR? It sounded like such a good thing..

Speaking for myself, the EPR is the next best thing to a Bilevel that anyone offers. EPR = 3 allows exhale pressure to drop 3CMs & that is what my Bilevels are set for.

I don't use the Auto mode on my S8 Vantage I model at all but if I had the new S8 Vantage II, I would probably use EPR & Auto but with Auto confined to a very very tight pressure range (somewhere between 2-3 CMS max adjustment of the main pressure, but with EPR=3). Bilevel will always trump Auto in my opinion.

Good luck
