*HELP* * HELP* Comfortable Nasal Mask

Post by Jack L » Tue Sep 23, 2008 6:13 pm

I am getting ready to change my Nasal Mask. Right know I have a Respironics "ComfortClassic". Not too happy with the head band. Has to be
somewhat snug in order not to leak. And not that comfortable. Also when I sleep on my side, the tweaking of the face will cause a leak or so.

NEED HELP:

What do you suggest?? Can I stay with a different style of Respironics.
Or, what about a "Mirage Activa". They say it is somewhat new. The band
is worn a little loose. One of their newer models.

I used to use a Comfort Gel but have switched to the Swift LT. I didn't know a mask could be so comfortable and now can't imagine using anything else. It's great for side sleepers.

An Activa is supposed to be worn loose. It's a mask that requires enough air to fill up it's cushion.

Hi Jack,

My hands-down favorite is the Headrest Nasal Pillow. Great for side sleepers.

Good luck choosing,
Cathy

I like the Fisher & Paykel FlexFit406 nasal mask...very light weight and for the most part, stays in place, I am a side sleeper. My first mask was a Comfort Gel nasal mask, and I didn't care for it, one of the problems being it left a lot of marks on my face probably from wearing it too tight...I did put up with it for the first 6 months. The one I am presently using is the Fisher & Paykel FlexFit 406 which is for petite faces...and like it much better, it is more comfortable and light weight. There is a F&P FlexFit 405, I believe, with a small and large size, you'd have to check to see what the up to date version is. My next option will be a full face mask, as my doctor wants me to try one as I do have leakage which is escaping from my mouth (I think)...a chin strap has helped quite a bit. If the full face mask doesn't work out, I will probably return to the F&P FlexFit...as it is pretty light weight on the face. I do use the Pad-a-cheeks to soften the straps. From everything I have read on this forum though, mask selection varies a lot. Good luck, never give up.

I tried the activa... if you are wearing petite sizes in masks, I doubt the activa would work for you. I too wear petite and the activa was just way too big. The concept behind the mask is great and if it came smaller I would be using it for sure but just doesn't fit well on us petite faces. I contacted the company about the sizing a while back about it being too large for us smaller faced people and the rep said they were working on a smaller verion, type of mask for our size of faces.

Right now I am wearing a comfort-gel and although it is heavy and does leave marks on my face, it is the only mask that I can wear with the least leaking.
I have tried the FP 406, the petite mask and cannot stop leaks at my eyes. I have the same problem with the micro-mirage mask also. Just a few tidbits that might help in your choice.

I recommend the Nasal Aire II. I run a Free Test Drive so you can try this mask before you buy it. All it costs you is the price of postage to send it on to the next person.

See the link in my signature box for more details about this mask.

Good luck!
Babette

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Hello --I am a side sleeper and I have the OPTI LIFE nasal cushion right now--it is very nice and has no band going across your forehead which is what I like!! it is very comfortable and light weight, very easy to use right out of the package (after washing of course!). I have the ComfortGel in Petite, I tried and have the Flexifit 405, The Swift Nasal Air II, as well as a few others that I do not like as well as the OPTI LIFE! give it a try---you will like it--
