Leaking mask or mouth breathing

Post by handee3 » Mon Sep 22, 2008 8:40 am

I've been using a s8 escape since May. Finally, this last month, i've felt so much better, BUT the last 3 days i've noticed that the water in the humidifier is almost gone compared to half empty and I feel lousy. Could it be that I need to turn down my humidifier to a lower setting or is it that my mask is leaking or I am mouth breathing or all of the above. I did try 2 different full face masks and a chin strap over the summer without much success. But like I said, this last month went well with just the nose mask. I don't want to take too many steps backwards. I could use some suggestions or experiences. Thank you for your help!

You won't know for sure unless/until you seal your mouth (tape or Polident adhesive denture strips)......or get a full face mask that works (you didn't say which ones you tried).

Too much (warm) humidity can actually have the effect of closing up your nasal passages and thereby causing more mouth-breathing/leaking.

Since you have the software, does it show any increase in leaks? As Den said, seal your mouth and then if you are still leaking, you will know it's the mask. The extra air rushing by will make the water level go down faster.
