Would you keep tinkering if this were you?

Post by Billmanweh » Sun Sep 21, 2008 10:37 pm

I've kind of hit a wall lately with my numbers and I'm trying to decide whether to just chill and stop messing with it for awhile, or try some different things. I'm 100% compliant, wearing the mask and sleeping with it isn't an issue any more. I've kind of settled on the Headrest mask, it's comfortable to me and I don't have any leak issues that I notice when I'm going to sleep or that wake me up.

My AHI+FI has consistently been around 1.5. My pressure range is 12.5-20 and my mean pressure is always around 13.2. I don't use the ramp feature. I'm using the humidifier with the heated hose, A-Flex and my pursleep sample. No real "issues", but I've just kind of hit the wall with my AHI. Nothing I try seems to bump it below 1.5.

Here are reports from the last couple of nights;

Any thoughts?

I'd say you are doing well, I would change the pressure to 12CM to 15CM if it were me, keep watch out for the leaks, but looks like it's almost dialed in. Jim

Looks great - I would be really happy if I could reach a consistent AHI of less than 1.5 - I've finally been able to get mine down to about 3.0 most nights, so I still have a way to go.

I think you're pretty close to Nirvana, as long as you are also feeling much more rested & have lot's of energy...

You're getting an extremely low AHI. There's no reason I can see to change anything. Looks fine.

Greetings, Billmanweh!

Looks great, I agree that you shouldn't change anything. More pressure may make your leak rate to up, which I find less restful. Good for you - you really stuck with it, and I hope you're now getting the rest you deserve.

Take Care,
Cathy

If if you have the time and tinkering is what makes you happy then tinker away.

Tinkering NO, monitoring YES.
My avg. AHI is in about the same place. I can see it go as low as 1.0 sometimes and as high as 2.0 when I've had a bad night.
I've had some nasty nights last week sleeping without CPAP because of power outage from Ike.

Friday night I decided I had to run the gen set all night to be able to run the CPAP.
MUCH BETTER Night.
The timing couldn't have been better cause they caught a thief making off with cold gen sets that night.

Have you tried straight pressure (CPAP mode)?

Well, I was considering lowering my pressure a little. It seems like I spend most of the night right at my current minimum. Would that make sense?

Thanks for all the comments!

I would be tempted to start at 12 cm. See how that goes for a few nights and then go from there.

I think I'll try that. Set the lower limit to 12.0 for a few nights and see if I see any difference.

I would take a break and enjoy the results of all the work you've done so far. You can always do some more tinkering later. After a year my AHI is finally under 2 (anywhere from 0.9 - 2.0) and I'm feeling good. My energy levels have improved very noticeably.

Actually, I was talking about using straight pressure (CPAP) mode at a pressure of 12.

Oh, ok. Well, I'm not against trying it, but I also don't understand the point of switching from auto to straight CPAP.
