not able to sleep with CPAP for more than 2hrs
not able to sleep with CPAP for more than 2hrs
I don't know if any one has experienced the following,I went through testing for sleep apnea and was diagnosed as severe....I was totally unaware that I had a problem,if my wife would not have informed me(I was keeping her awake) I would have never know my symptons or that I had a problem. I was prescibed a CPAP machine 3 months ago and to date the longest I have been able to sleep is 2 hrs.The only positive is that during the 2hrs I do stop snoring but I also move my legs and this has continued.I have returned to the clinic for additional visits and machine adjustments but these have proven to be unsuccessfull. The weird part is when I do not wear the machine I wake up in the morning rested and ready for the day...if I wear the machine I am groggy and sluggish all day...It almost feels like I have been misdiagnosed...any comments would be greatly appreciated
Re: not able to sleep with CPAP for more than 2hrs
Yup. That's a very similar story to many of us on the board. You need to try some changes:
1) Try another mask
2) Try http://www.pur-sleep.com - it really helps you relax and find the experience more pleasurable - or at least less irritating
3) Try using a sleep aid at night, like melatonin, or Benadryl
4) Ask your doc about a prescription for Provigil or another stimulant to help you with daytime grogginess
All four of these were necessary for me. It took me 8 masks and 6 weeks of HELL before I could sleep all night with the mask, every night. I had to take numerous nights off during that time to try to catch up on sleep. The mask was the number one key problem, but getting some Provigil really helped me stay awake in the day during that time, and helped me keep my job.
Good luck. Keep asking questions, we'll do our best to help you.

I had many 2 hr nights while on straight cpap. I sleep much better after changing to a more comfortable auto machine. Your sleep study may show if you have a independent leg movement consideration. You will get there....stay tuned!
