ComfortGel FF Mask

Post by DoriC » Tue Sep 16, 2008 7:04 pm

Can someone give me instructions on taking apart mask and boiling the blue gel to get mask to seal better? I read somewhere that can be done. My husband has been wearing it for about 3wks and it is leaking when he sleeps on his left side. Thanks.

I don't think boiling the gel is going to help this situation. If when he sleeps on his left side it is leaking because the mask is being pushed to the right. You may need to tighted the lower straps some and use a pillow that has a straight up and down end to help the mask to hang free.
I use that same mask and I have no problem side sleeping with it, but it does take some getting the right feel for how it is setting on the face. Good Luck and my best regards. Jim

Jim, thanks for the quick reply, now another ?. What type pillow do you use, can't quite understand what "straight up and down means". I hear this Papillow is popular.

The Custom fit instructions should have come with your mask on how to boil it for custom fitting.

http://global.respironics.com/UserGuide ... ortGel.pdf

Basically,

1. Remove the headgear from the LOWER clips, leave top attached, mask together.
2. Get a ceral bowl, put some ice in it and fill with water, you will "dip" the hot mask in the ice water so have it ready.
3. Boil 2 or more cups of water, then pour water in a 2 cup measuring cup or enough water to cover the cushion.
4. Place mask in boiled water for 4 minutes, keep headgear out of water, after 4 minutes, remove from hot water.
5. Dip hot mask in ice water for 10 seconds to cool the outside of cushion.
6. Placed cooled cushion against your face and attach straps, straps should be snug to form it to your face.

after 3-5 minutes or the mask has cooled it should be customized to your face.
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Snoredog: wrong again.

The ComfortGel Full Face doesn't have the boil and fit ability. Just the regular ComfortGel.

Ha,Ha, I was going crazy trying to find the page with boiling instructions for the FF. Snoredog, thanks anyway for the prompt reply. So now another question so I don't have to call Medicare and be put on hold forever, how often do they allow you to replace a mask? Also, we acquired a QuattroFF along the way somehow and my hubby can't wear it, it leaks like crazy. He used the Ultra Mirage FF during his sleep study and I would like to exchange the Quattro for the UM, would my DME do that or should I just ask. I'm trying to educate myself on how this all works with insurance, exchanges, replacements, etc. Nobody tells you these things and I don't know the questions to ask. Sorry to be a pest.
