flat back of the head? does your nasal pillow stay on?

Post by snoozy-woozy » Sun Sep 14, 2008 3:49 pm

Yes, I do have a vary flat head at the back , which made it difficult for my Mirage Swift II nasal pillow mask to fit snugly through the night. The strap at the back of the headgear tended to ride up, making the pillow loose.

To solve that problem, I was given the Mirage Micro, but what a headache it gives me! By the time I've adjusted it so there are no leaks, I feel like I'm strapped into some sort of torture device. It hurts my face, my head, everywhere.

I'd love to go back to a nasal pillow, but I need headgear that will stay put. Any suggestions? Thanks!

First try to fix the swift - check for ideas on this thread - look up the swift - velcro the back of headgear to stick to the hair, put in safety pins to change the angle of the headgear, add extra elastic bands to give anchor to the base of the head -- lots of ideas - the thread started by ufo13 mentioned has lots of ideas itself in it

jules, you're right. Everyone else has been there, done that! Thanks for making short work of it for me. The ufo13 thread is great.

just get some ideas and see what works for you - some of the fixes are pretty cheap - I kind of like the svh one about safety pins - never tried it - I used the extra elastic bands around the base of my head myself when I used the swift

I attached my Nasal Aire II directly to my chinstrap using velcro one-wrap. You might try something similar. I've got pix here:

You might try something similar with your mask.

Cheers,

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

Thank you both Jules and Babette. I am going to get my Swift back from the DME tomorrow and give back the (for me) nasty Mirage Micro. I am sure with some modifications I can get the Swift to work. If not, the Nasalaire sounds like a good alternative. Thanks again!

I know this problem. I think you would be able to use your favorite one with a minor fix. A slight variation of my fix for the Headrest (see the link belwo) is what I use with Swift LT, the strap of yours is similar to the LT's. I would post that one soon. Meanwhile look at this link:

BTW, you might also contemplate the PAP-CAP. You can attach your mask directly to that, as well.
