arghhh my mask broke

Post by mch441 » Fri Sep 12, 2008 10:42 am

i went to put my liberty mask on the other night and found that the clip part on the body of the mask had broken off,no big deal since i still had my old mask in the closet just swap out the cushions and head gear and go to sleep but then last night i went to gear up and found that on my second mask 1 side of the clip is broken same place as the other mask ,it is still hanging on but barely.thats were the arghh comes in i let my wife use my swift II which is my favorite backupwhen im haveing trouble with my liberty but she has gotten really used to that mask and not looking to give it back so i had to go with my old ultra full face that i have never been able to get comfortable with so i really got no sleep at all last night!!!!
i mixed up some 12 minute epoxy this morning and im hoping that its strong enough to hold it together but i have my doubts so im now in search of a replacement body.im kind of hoping someone out there has an old liberty that they would be willing to part with .i really love this mask and i sleep great with it but im a good 3 or 4 months away from being up for a replacement.if anyone does have one and might be able to help me out please let me know and thank you in advance mike

I use J B Weld myself, I think if some was used when the mask was new the repair would work better. Face oils make repair harder the repair. I clean 7 dry the repair area well, then use Krazy Glue to hold the broken part in place. Then the J B Weld to make the repair final. It's not pretty but it works. I know this isn't what you'd prefer, but if it will help you get through until you can get the "right" one, I have 2 spares...

-- a Respironics Optilife Nasal Pillow mask with Petite pillows

-- a ResMed Ultra Mirage Full Face mask
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... dgear.html

Here's the thing.... You're in Bristol, and I'm in McAlisterville, about 160 miles between. I figure Lancaster's just about halfway. If you want to borrow either or both, and if it would work for you, we could meet tonight at one of the Turnpike exits. PM me if interested. I'll be offline from about 4:45 to 6:00, but meeting tonight still would be possible. I'd have to go home for the mask(s) anyway.

I'm glad you have backups, Mike. That was my concern. Thanks.

not all that familiar with your mask.
I have used the breeze for the past10 years and have broken it many times.
The earlier models were very prone to breaking.

In many cases you can take a soldering iron and simply melt the parts together.

sometimes I have taken an old one and used a small section to splint the broken area.
Simply punch holes with the iron thru it- melting it.

works for moi.

My Liberty broke in the same place last night (or rather very early this morning when I was stumbling tired). Dragged out a newish Comfortfull full face, but of course, the black threader for the headgear was missing on one side. Dragged out an older full face and used it. Woke up with dry, dry eyes where it leaked air into them, which is one of the reasons I stopped using it.

This is the second part I've had to replace on my Liberty (the elbow joint broke first). I should have just replaced the whole thing originally and pirated parts since it looks like my cushion is going to need to be replaced soon, too.

But given Liberty's track record of breakage, I'm thinking today that I'll just tape the darn hanging plastic holder back on, replace the missing part on the Comfortfull, and then look into another model. Haven't tried the Hybrid Universal or the ZZZ yet.

Am feeling ripped off because there's no need to build this mask so poorly--ResMed is taking a Liberty with my money! I really don't want to give them any more. They should offer free replacements for obvious product failures like this, no matter how old the mask is. Grrrr.... Liberty owners of the world, unite! Maybe we should all send ResMed all our broken parts on the same day. The deluge of plastic would be something to see.

Contact the manufacturer about this issue, as it appears to be a flaw
in the product if others are complaining as well.
Who knows, you may get new pieces sent to you, sure worth a phone
call.
