My doc asked me to leave the upper number 20. She said the lower number makes a difference in terms of catching/stopping apneas, so increasing the lower number was fine with her. But leaving the upper number at the maximum allows the machine to go up that high if it needs to.

Some on this forum have said that higher pressures can cause central apneas. I have done some searching in the professional literature and not found anything to support this. I also asked my doc who said she was not aware of any research showing this. She also said that for me, I didn't have enough central apneas during my sleep study for me to worry about them. If studies exist, I'd like to be able to show them to my doc... so if you know about them, please post!

I just switched to the APAP from an older CPAP. It seems like a found a good doc, at least one that will listen to me and wrote the script to the APAP without any hesitation. I had a re-titration night at the lab and that how we came up with 11 as a base line, previous CPAP pressure was 8. My education with xPAP therapy is now high since I can now see data. I cannot add anything substantial regarding central apneas as I am still trying to learn the difference between all the "apnea" information on the data card.

Your "numbers" aren't bad, but your leaks and snores are driving your pressure increases. I would think that would be disturbing to your sleep. If it were me, I'd bump the minimum pressure up to 10 or 11 and see what happens.

Do you intend to leave your machine set to APAP mode with a pressure range or are you using that mode to determine a better CPAP pressure?

I would set min at 10 as Den suggested and raise max to 15 or 16 and try that for a week or two.
