I have tried many masks and changed from cpap to bipap. I have found this forum and hope to get some words of encouragement that I am not alone with my frustrations. I'll be checking in frequently to read and hear from all.

Welcome to the forum, and believe me, you are not alone. Cumulatively, we have experienced it all. Use the search function if you have a partiular question and read, read, read. If you can't find the answer, just ask. There are a lot of smart people helping those of us with sleep deprived minds. Go ahead and finish registering by filling out your profile with your machine, mask, pressure settings, etc. That information will enable the experts to help you.

I'd be interested to know where you got the information that Tim Russert had been diagnosed with sleep apnea and refused to wear his mask. I have heard speculation, but did not know it to be fact.

However, I had a co-worker who sat less than 10 feet from me all day every week day. She was overweight (300+ pounds) and would fall asleep sitting upright in her chair. When I learned I had sleep apnea, I begged her to get a sleep test. She refused, always saying that she would never go through all of that masking up stuff. December 21, 2007, during our office Christmas Party, between the dinner and the desert, she put her head down and seemed to fall asleep. Someone playfully nudged her to wake her up. She had stopped breathing. The restaurant had paddles and one of the waitstaff was a paramedic. Resque squad arrived in 7 minutes, but there was nothing they could do, except rip off her shirt and try to resucitate. She died In the middle of a restaurant, in front of all of her friends. She was 57. Is that how she wanted to die? I'm still talking to her sisters who are both overweight , have diabetes and need to have sleep studies done. I don't know if I can save them. Some people are so stubborn. And then they die, leaving grieving family, friends and co-workers.

Please don't give up.

I got it from the doctor. It doesn't matter to me if it's true or not, it had the desired effect of scaring me to get serious about wearing it nightly

The frustrations brough many of us to this forum.
When we could articulate them, we got tips from those how had been there before.
And some of us have remained here, hoping to give our own tips to those who have just started out on their journes.

You are very much not alone in your frustration - no in needing to learn this new way of sleeping. Start shooting all you questions - someone will be glad to answer them.

I wish we could verify that about Tim Russert. His son looks as though he may have inherited his fathers body type. He could be a good spokesman to get the word out that there is something that could save the lives of so many. And lessen the suffering of so many others.

Now, that I have it working for me, I think about how good I'm
going to feel in the morning.

You didn't give us a whole lot of information to go on......
Please fill out your profile with the make/model of machine, mask (you're currently using), pressure settings and then list for us what masks you've tried.......and some more details about your "journey" to this point.

FWIW, unfortunately, your experiences are far too common. Don't despair......many have turned their therapy around and are now doing well.
