Pro II/ M Pro report accuracy

Post by breathright » Sat Aug 23, 2008 11:27 am

I have 2 CPAP machines, the older Respironics Pro II and the M series Pro. I noticed that my reports from the newer M appear to show better therapy results (lower AHI etc) than the M. Is the M more or less accurate than the older Pro II?

I don't have any of the M Series machines, but I do have 3 of the (Legacy model) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex and one REMstar Pro 2. I have all of them set to the same (CPAP/CFLE) settings of 12 cm. and C-Flex at 2. Three of the four have different firmware levels (2.5, 2.7 and 2.8.)......and they ALL show somewhat different results......particularly in leak reporting (less leakage with higher firmware level). On the other hand, I'll use the same machine for at least a month (or several) before rotating.......and during that time, I could experience changes in my sleep or breathing patterns.

Remember, these machines report on "breathing patterns" and the algorithms which report those are essentially computer programs and change periodically with the machines and firmware levels.

My Pro 2 started out (in 2005) with a 2.5 firmware chip in it and in 2006 I sent it in to Respironics for a "wheeze" noise in the C-Flex mechanism......and it came back with a 2.7 firmware chip in it. Now, the stupid reporting program drops 10 minutes of time after you turn it on (like "settling time" on a ResMed).....or if your during-the-night potty break takes longer then 3 minutes. I figured out how to get around it, but it's kind of a pain-in-the-ass every time I start it up. I liked the 2.5 version.....it just started recording from the moment it's started.

With the M being newer you would expect improvements in accuracy, but as you stated newer versions don't always mean better. I'm just trying to decide which machine is giving me the best data to base my treatment on. I find the M too noisy so I use the Pro II, but if my daily reports are more accurate with the M Pro than I'll buy the wisper add on and switch to the M.

If I had two machines I would try to go by the one I slept better with.
