Anyone able to get ResMed products from Apria?

Post by sleepydude » Thu Aug 21, 2008 8:26 am

My insurance requires me to go through Apria. I really want ResMed products. Has anyone out there been able to get ResMed stuff through Apria? Thanks!

My insurance dictates the same. However, I have been successful (I'm fully ResMed now) by getting my sleep doctor to write the prescriptions specifically for ResMed products. Apria then orders them without question.

Dude - -

I've never had a problem getting my biannual resmed mirage mask replacements from Apria.

(Actually, I've never had a problem w Apria, but I know others here have some colorful stories)

My husband and I have had nothing but good experiences with Apria. They are willing to special order any CPAP, mask, or supply that they don't carry in their regular stock. We are very pleased after having fought with other DMEs for years....

Oh, I don't know about that ... NO irritating blue lights that can't be shut off, no picky integrated humidifier, no lost data 1-2 days a month, no extra power brick & cords, .... vs Resmed's easily assembled & disassembled integrated humidifier (and easy to fill too), EASY access to data on the LCD (no unplugging and plugging back in), only one cord, the new EasyBreathe technology on the S8 IIs ...

I agree. I just switched from a Respironics machine. I much prefer my Resmed...

For the folks who were able to get ResMed stuff from Apria, did you have to have a prescription from your doctor specifying ResMed? Thanks.

No, our docs wrote prescriptions for the type of equipment, but specifically left the choice to us. (Mine says "Equipment per patient.") Of course, it takes a little bit longer to get special order items than the ones in stock, but that's to be expected.

Jay, I'll be interested in your trial with both types of machines. Please let us know how it goes.

For masks and supplies, no. Apria just sends me what I want. For my machine, they specifically told me that in the absence of machine specifics on the scrip, they would default to Respironics M Series CPAP. If I wanted a Resmed machine, they told me I needed to have all the details on the scrip, then they would honor it.

I'm not crazy about it, or Apria, but in the end I did get what I wanted...and at a reasonable price.
