Problems to swallow

Post by Empis » Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:11 am

Hi there, I've been in my CPAP for around 6 weeks, and I am noticing that after finish eating my meals I started to feel uncomfortable, like my food is stock on my throat something like that, did anybody have this symptom or this sensation in your throat while using the CPAP? or do you think is something different

PLEASE go get this check out NOW , with a specialist gastro-enterologist.

My dad had GERD for many many years but he never went to a specialist, and it eventually ate away at his esophagus until it turned cancerous. They eventually diagnosed the cancer because of swallowing problems. i TRULY hope for your sake that is not the problem, but PLEASE do get it check out ASAP!!!!!
(Sorry to sound so pessimisitic, I hope it's something else for your sake...)

Interesting that you should notice this since CPAP, Empis. I experienced this for years and years, LOOONG before CPAP. I have to drink quite a bit of cold liquid w/each meal. I'm not one to choke on my food - but - I do on occasion, considerably moreso than most folks, choke on liquids. I can't "do" LARGE pills, especially dry packed powder type pills such as a calcium tablet w/o them taking FOREVER to move down my esophagus and THEN they sit like a lead balloon in my stomach. My gastro has offered to "stretch" my esophagus but I see no reason to. I've lived this long w/it w/o serious problems. Tho I have scared a few people when I've choked on a liquid.

Perhaps in your case it has to do w/your mucus membranes being a bit drier due to CPAP? Or does it occur thru out the day and even late in the afternoon or evening w/o a CPAP nap? Are you a mouth breather? During the day? You may have been experiencing "silent reflux" for quite some time. Have you ever been Dx'd w/GERD? Have you experienced quite a bit of heartburn thru the years?
