When I went the DME to get a new mask and hoses, they gave me disposable filters. I always used a foam filter and just washed it out weekly. When I questioned the disposable ones, the DME told me I was supposed to be using both, the disposable one and then the foam on top. Does anyone out there use both? How often do you change the disposable one? Thanks..

Yep, have always used both filters. I wash the foam filter every 2 weeks and change the white fine filter once a month or when it turns grey. The white fine filter helps with alergys. Some times of the year when the pollen is in the air I change it once every 2 weeks. Keeps the machine cleaner.

You don't have to use both filters, but I do, as it does help keep the air I breath cleaner than just the foam filter alone. Like 6PtStar said, the disposable white one helps with allergies and I'm sure it does keep the machine cleaner. I, too, change my foam one about once every two weeks, and replace the disposable one when it turns gray or once a month, whichever comes first.

if you're travelling it's also good to use the white disposable filters - on one trip I had to change it nearly every week beceause the air there was so polluted!

i've found my machine "whines" more when I use both - there were some posts a while back about it possible hurting the machine because it creates more resistanced at the air intake, but i'd rather breath good air!

I use both. I change the white one monthly. I wash out the gray one monthly and change it completely every six months. My white filter is definitely dirty when I toss it and I live among many trees with clean air - versus in the city or in a smoggy area.
