Where did you get your Resmed ResScan Smart Card Reader from

Post by Resmed seeker » Sun Aug 10, 2008 2:51 pm

Where did you get your Resmed ResScan Smart Card Reader from and how much did you pay? I am looking to buy one. I checked Ebay and there isn't any listed. Perhaps it goes by some other hardware name?

I can't speak for others but I bought mine from cpap.com store. I emailed resmed support in Austraila for an updated ver 3.5 for my vista computer.

Cpap.com will be my last resort. I recall that their prices are "standard" or typical. I saw the Infineer Smart Card reader NEW for the Respironics Machine on Ebay as a "Buy it Now" for less than double of what CPAP.com was charging. I know they can be had for less than the $70 Cpap.com charges, but where? I believe some manufacturer is making the for reader for Resmed that is being used elsewhere under a different name.

Yes, they did. I had worked with the tech for 5 days via email support au.
trying to find the reason my cardreader wasn't being recognized. I think the one I had must have been defective. The tech was interested in finding out what the problem with the cardreader was so I worked with him.
After 5 days I suggested I send the cardreader to him and he could check it out. I told me that I had tried the ver.3.3 software on my vista and it wouldn't even install. He told me the ver 3.3 won't work for vista but he would send me a copy of the updated ver 3.5 and he would send me another cardreader. I posted the cardreader I had to him in Austraila and was told it would take up to 2 weeks by airmail to get there. He sent me the updated ver 3.5 cd and cardreader and I received it within 2 days. I thought ResMed must have their own private jet! It was such a surprise.

The tech was very nice and I actually enjoyed time emailing back and forth with things to try to figure out the problem.

I think ResMed is a great company to deal with. I told him I am not a professional, just an apnea person who needs to take part in her treatment by monitoring progress in order to stay compliant.

The ResScan reader is a standard ACR-38 reader with an additional card guide to correctly align the narrow ResScan card with the reader contacts in a standard Smartcard sized card slot.

You can buy an ACR-38 reader in the general market but you can't buy the alignment guide... however if you are mechanically handy, it is not that hard to make a workable alignment guide from an old credit card (or similar).

See this message thread for photos... viewtopic.php?p=287951#287951

Cheers,

Bill

ResMed seeker,

I don't know, but it MAY be that CPAP.com, or any similar online seller, isn't allowed to advertise its lowest price on that item. I know that's true of some items. You may need to call directly to get that information.

Good luck, Bob
Thanks, Slacker

It should be noted that cpap.com does price match.

I found a DT-3500 @ another site, and got them to price match it.
Still waiting for it to arrive though =)

Good info Bill. I can see someone who is mechanically and tech savvy who can make a few bucks from making these alignment guides.

It sounds like the Resmed tech made an exception and gave you the upgraded newer version. I don't think your experience is typical. I could be wrong though.

I got an Infineer DT3500 for my Respironics from Two Factors for about $30 including postage.

Yes, Respironics hardware is more generic and is cheaper. However, this is not a Respironics thread, but Resmed.

Yes you are wrong - it seems to be the rule. They even seem to ship it FOC overseas.
