Increased pressure = Mask blown off

Post by busybee1883 » Sat Aug 09, 2008 4:05 pm

Situation is this

* pressure adjusted on xPAP - now machine allows a range of pressure as needed.

* fights with a ff mask -- waking to find self holding the mask, find it partially on my face (slid up so it covers my nose and eyes), or finding myself laying face down ontop of the mask.

* sleep is restless enough as it is but this disturbance is leaving me tired. I've been so tired lately (allergies, business of schedule) that I havent been waking up (enough to understand the distrubance) right away

* I've adjusted the mask, tightened the straps, am now sleeping with a blanket on my face (to help quiet the sound of the higher air going through the air holes of the mask) etc...

Now, I am coming to you to ask for hints on fixing this now problem situation. Thank you

Instead of tightening the mask's own headgear straps, perhaps try putting an extra strap...a homemade one (like the leg cut off a pair of tights) ... around the mask to support it against your face a little better from in front.

Last night I took the head gear on the FF mask and rearranged the straps. I tied the top stretchies across the forehead which helped a bit but not much. I found myself holding the mask (at the place where it meets with the hose) almost everytime I woke.

A question came to me last night,

Am I restless because of the normal run of the mill things and therefore need more pressure or do I rouse from "slumber" due to the pressures being higher?

You asked about the pressures and me updating my profile. I wasnt sure how to do so, but I did give it my best shot. If things dont show up better, please let me know how to do this adjusting.

As for the pressures - the Rx is 7 but after a year and a half, I was still tired and groggy. I adjusted the pressures on the machine to give a range as I wasnt sure what was the best pressure for me....it seems the machine reads a 30 day pressure of 12.5 and a 7 day pressure at 13.1 I have woken to pressures reading 14.0 but thats my upper limit setting. Since adjusting the pressure I havent awaken to anything below a 9.2

When I adjusted the pressure, I also enabled the display of the AHI. From the first two days, its come down to 0.9 YAHOO!

Any suggestions or comments ((Please, No comments DESIRED TELLING ME I SHOULDNT have adujsted MY OWN PRESSURES - My doc wasnt around, I didnt have insurance at the time, and I needed to make a change - I gave it plenty of time (nearly 18 months). Thanks))

Thank you
