Best APAP machine?

Post by tonedeaf1 » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:23 pm

So I'm going to my doctors tomorrow to discuss hopefully getting an APAP machine. Any suggestions of what to get? I'm not sure if I'll have a say in it, but I'm trying to do some research just in case. Some of the features I like on my current machine are the heated humidifier and the cflex. So I'd like these in the new machine as well. And I'd like to be able to get leak rate readings and whatnot which my current machine does not provide.

Thanks for your input

Your profile is showing a "Classic tank" Plus and a "M" HH, you have one or the other style, they don't work together. If you have the "M" and can use the "M" HH over it would save money. Aflex is said by some to be better, the more options the better. Jim

Also if you need a new HH, a external works better.

Really only two to consider: the Resmed S8 II AutoSet (note S8 II) which has EPR and EasyBreathe and has the easiest access to data via the LCD screen; or the Respironics M Series Auto w/A-Flex note A-Flex) which also has data accessible via the LCD screen w/just a ltitle more hassle than w/the Resmed.

Which the local DME supplier will be willing to provide will depend a lot on which manufacturer they do the most business w/and thus get the best bulk prices from.

It would be worthwhile for you to call your insurance company and ask them what local DME CPAP suppliers they are contracted with. Hopefully you will have the option of more than one. That gives you more bargaining room.

Yes your humidifier would work on any of the "M" series machines. Will not work on the ResMed machines. Most of the time they make you buy the humidifier outright for a rental machine. The "M" Auto W/A-Flex is a first choice. Some of us do buy the F&P 150 humidifier because it is a bit better than the intergrated ones and will fit any machine.
