OT: Why don't my smiles work?

Post by Ren » Tue Aug 05, 2008 8:58 pm

I see smiles in other peoples' posts, but in my own posts all I see is text. Anyone see the emoticons above? Thanks.

Yep, a whole collection of them!!!! If you can't see them maybe you need to get your eyes checked. Seriously, they are working fine. They don't show up until you submit the message.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting: "Wow what a ride!"

Ok, now I'm seeing them, but in a couple of my recent posts I did not. Sometimes I hate computers...

In my posts, they don't show up in the previews. But they're in the actual posts. Could that be what you're noticing?

I used to see dead people, but now it is worse: I see SMILIES!!!!!

All kidding aside, when typing in the message box, ONLY the programming for the emoticons will appear.
is the sequence in your post that you asked if we saw.

Here is what that series of emoticons looks like in programming, only I have inserted a space after each colon:
: D : ) : P : wink: : mrgreen:

So, colon and Capital D=
colon and right parenthesis=
colon and Capital P=
colon and wink and colon=
and
colon and mrgreen and colon=

They will appear in their post form if you will click on the Preview button to the left of the Submit button below the message box. You then must scroll up to preview the message as it will appear on the actual thread.

If you still cannot see them, then I don't know what is wrong. I have used 3 browsers on this forum; Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. All three have operated in the same way with regards to emoticons, EXCEPT: In Explorer, the emoticon goes where the cursor happens to be. In Firefox, the emoticon shows at the end of the most advanced end of the message typing area. If you are the type who puts in the emoticon as you type, and not when you revise, it does not matter! If you are like me and go back to embellish, you may wish to learn the program names for the emoticons, as it can be easier to insert them by typing than by cutting and pasting.

Why don't my smiles work?
I find my smiles work better if I'm handing her flowers and chocolate at the same time.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

[colon, no space, close parenthesis] hey, why didn't that work?
