The Sweet Spot

Post by givemesleep » Mon Aug 04, 2008 2:30 pm

I had to have my gallbladder removed last Thursday and for the past 4 nights I have had to sleep on my back. For two of the nights I had AHI of 0.7 and 0.4, the other 2 nights were in the 2's. I've never had numbers so low, but I have always slept on my left or right side.

I pulled out my sleep study and during my sleep study when I had any OA's it was on my side, I only had hypopneas on my back.

I think I need to start sleeping on my back!

Ya' know, if that's how you're built, then go for it!!! I recommend side pillow wedges to keep you there.

Cheers,

My Auto machine goes to a higher pressure when I'm on my back. At fixed pressure my AHI is higher on my back. Could it be that your machine is set a little high for side sleeping and your AHI would go down if you lowered it?

CPAP therapy is so easy you can do it in your sleep!

You might be on to something. I had not really thought about it until my numbers came up so low. I also have an auto that is set for 6-18. It generally runs at 7-8.5, a the 90%. I was titrated for a 9 but have lost 30 pounds since April so it is running lower now.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
