Sleepstudy - To Shave or not to Shave.

Post by Analog-X » Mon Aug 04, 2008 4:10 pm

I'm going in to get my sleep study... first time was 6 or 7 years ago.

I have a clean trimmed goatee, but I'm considering shaving it to get better results?

What do the men think?

Also should I take my Full Facial Mask with me or just the Nasal one??

Well, as I understand you are currently a CPAP user? So why do you need to shave? If current mask feels comfortably with no leaks, why do you need to shave? I am also planning split study soon, so I’ll take with me:
My Mask and My Machine just to make sure I am replicating my home’s CPAP settings to max.

Didn't shave for mine, but that was back when the Adams was the lastest and greatest nasal pillow mask. It worked(s) fine with my full beard.

Good luck

I didn't shave for mine....
They used a nasal mask on me which worked ok and I didn't mouth leak, so.......

Actually I would take the mask you use most often, but you may want to take them both so you have a choice. Let the tech's know you've got them both with you, so if something "happens" they can switch you up to your own mask......
(Unless of course you want to check out whatever it is they're using these days....that's an option also -- check out a newbie!!)

good luck
cheers

My first Sleep Study, I only had the Nasal one, which is not that big of a problem, just need to be a bit tighter around the mustache area.

The reason I purchased the full mask, was because if I was badly congested, or had a cold, my nose was too stuffed up to use with the nasal mask.

Shaving is not a bid deal... just more of an appearance thing really.. I can grow it back by Friday.

My husband had a similar question before his titration study. I suggested that he try to get as accurate a read as possible by doing what he plans on doing every night before he goes to bed.

If you are planning on keeping or growing back your mustache, wouldn't you want the study to reflect results based on the existence of your mustache?

I didn't shave for mine either but I have a full beard.

If you want a near representative picture of your sleep ... I would go the way you plan to wear your beard and the mask you plan to wear after the study. SD makes a good point about potential leaks and you could use the study as a baseline by shaving and using the FF mask however.

Your call ... good luck with the study.

thanks for all the advice.

I wont shave my beard and will take my Full mask with...worst case scenario and hopefully being a sleep clinic they should have Pillow Mask on hand. I'll to be switched to pillow mask if things dont work out.

Or even worse case scenario shave at 3:00 in the morning at the clinic..
