New to Breeze, need some help

Post by snamvar » Fri Dec 17, 2004 9:49 pm

Hi,
I just got my Breeze interface with large and x-large pillows. I tried it last night and gave up after a while. I need help on the following:

When sleeping on my back facing up, the back of the gear kind of pushes against my skull. Is this ok? Am I not supposed to be in this position with the interface on?

One of my nostrils was really stuffed up and and the air was flowing through the other nostril mostly. I had some leaks. Is that because of the stuffed-up nostril or the fitting? The cushions I found to be vary comfortable though.
Thanks.
P.S. my pressure is 8.
I don't do mornings !!!

The few times I've turned onto my back while wearing the Breeze/pillows, it hasn't worked well for me. I sleep on my side almost all the time - Breeze works beautifully for side sleeping.

Someone who sleeps primarily on his/her back would have better success with the Swift, I believe. The Breeze seems more apt to shift forward slightly (causing leaks) when the back of your head is against your pillow (talking about regular head pillow here, not "nasal pillow".) Or at least that's the way it happens for me. The back of the Swift's headgear is more comfortable for sleeping on your back and the nose part doesn't shift. I'm not fond of the Swift for sleeping on my side though, so the Breeze suits me better.

I mostly sleep on my side, but some nights I seem to spend a lot of time on my back. I've learned how to make the Breeze work well when I'm on my back, and do it without thinking now.

Here's the problem as I perceive it: When I roll onto my back, the back of the headgear pushes toward the top of my head. That causes the headgear to move down the front of my head and allows the nasal pillows to leak.

Here's how I make it work: As soon as I roll onto my back I tip my head back. Then as I return my head to its natural position the back of the headgear is pulled back down to it's normal position.

I started doing this when I would wake up because of the leaks. I now do this automatically without waking up.

Regarding the leaks, the best I can suggest is to see how you do once your stuffiness abates. If you are still having problems, try a different size set of nasal pillows.

Also, you could try adjusting the angle of the part that holds the nasal pillows. I keep mine pretty close to a 90 degree angle.
I got used to wearing contacts & braces, and now I'm used to CPAP, too.
