Tired and Headaches again

Post by tlc95066 » Sat Aug 02, 2008 1:57 pm

Hi All,

It has been a while since I have posted any messages, but I have been checking in from time to time. I have been religiously using my APAP since first DX'd back in late 2004. For the last couple of months I seem to be back to feeling tired and having headaches, more like migraines.

I have been looking at my data and it seems all seems to be in orfer. My average AHI is between 1.0 - 2.4, pretty good. I check my 90th % for pressure and it does seem to be higher than it used to be, so I upped my pressure to 9 from 7.5. I will see if that helps. Average leak rate is 22.4, about right for the mask that I am using. I do sleep between 5.5 and 8 hours per night, usually more toward 7-8 hours though...

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Best,
Teri

Hi Teri,

Good to see you again.

Any other medical conditions?
Have you had any recent blood work done?

How long ago did you increase your pressure? Have you had time to see any results from that? You only mentioned one pressure setting.....are you using CPAP mode or APAP?

Best wishes,

Den

Hi Den,

I don't really have any other medical conditions right now... my BP was up for me... 130/80 which i realize is low, but for me that is high, I am usually at 113/68. I just increased my pressure yesterday, so I guess it will tak a couple of days to see how I respond. I am currently using my machine in APAP mode and it is set to 9 - 16. I think the highest i have reached is 14.

Thank you for your questions... I haven't had any blood work lately, but may consider it.

Talk to you soon.
Teri

One other thought (or so)......

Do you get a lot of fluctuation in your pressure....like from leaks, snores, etc.?
If so, maybe the pressure changes are disturbing your sleep.

The other thing is the Summer months.....if it's hot where you live and you're not getting as much sleep as you do in the cooler months (with longer nights), maybe that could be a factor. I know it is for me. If I get many nights of less than seven hours, I may be draggin' till I get caught up.

Hi Teri,
Good to see you!
Keep us posted, and it if raisning the min. doesn't help immediately, (like within two nights) then do have yourself checked to rule out other conditions.

Hi Teri

To be honest can't really help you. But wanted to say I sure think you have an awesome name.

Good Luck

I did raise the min pressure to 9cm and checked the results after 2 nights, didn't find any significant changes, but I will keep checking. Sounds like a doctors visit may be in order since i had another migraine yesterday. I don't seem to get alot of pressure flucutation, but my snore rates did seem to be up previously. I will watch that rate closely. Thanks goodness it is not really very hot were we live.

Good point on the less than 7 hours of sleep... I will have to ensure that I get more sleep, I have always been an "8 hour" kind of gal. Thanks for the input and brain check on my numbers.

Hi to Ms. IBTeri, thank goodness you know how to spell your name correctly!

Best,
Teri

Hi Teri,

Just wanted to chime in, with what Den said about getting ENOUGH sleep for you! I also have migraines, but have been greatly reduced with CPAP.

Whenever I slip up, and don't get at least a full 8 hours, that is a sure trigger for a migraine for me. It seems like 2 or 3 nights of getting like just 6 hours sleep, just starts a vicious cycle of lowering my resistance to migraines, stress, and fatigue.

It's really hard to fit everything in to one day, and get adequate sleep, BUT I think we have to think of it as a life style change. Compared to 3 or 4 migraines a week, it's worth it!

Good luck. Hope you feel better soon!

Hi NeedinZ's,

That could be a factor that I had not taken into consideration... Thank you for that thought!

Teri

Hi, Teri, nice to see you again!

You might consider your nasal health. I've found that with the California fires and the heat we have had more recently that my sinusus have become extra sensitive. Dust, mold and even our cherised pets can become irritating. Even if you've never had allergy problems they could develop due to sensitivity from the blowing air, although more likely for me than you because I use nasal pillows. The result has been headaches and a stiff neck.

Nasal cleansing with Neilmed Sinus Rinse helps tremendously, as do allergy sprays (I use NasalCrom) when it is at it's worst.
