CPAP & Gas??

Post by BigOrangeAsh » Wed Jul 30, 2008 6:54 am

Not sure how to ask an entire community if they have gas, so I'll just say it - Does anyone else have trouble with gas when sleeping with CPAP? I sleep with a full face mask, and I'm waking up several times a week with excruciating gas pains. This morning, I thought I was passing a stone or having appendicitis! I couldn't breathe, sit or stand! I was crawling towards my cell phone when I felt the pain move and realized it was a stupid gas bubble! What does everyone else do about this "inconvenience?" I'm thinking about trying Gas-X before I go to bed. Does anybody have any better ideas?

Just loosen up the pressure relief valve at your rear end
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

gas

Do a search - aerophagia-

this has been discusses here about a billion times.

It is not Gas in the traditional smelly sense.
It is Air ingested.

Gas-X and other defrothicants are useless.

It is usually self limimting and occasionally requires a lowering of pressure, although I do not think this is advisable until you are convinced it is not self- resolving.

I've had the same pain you described. Gas-X was my doc's recommendation. It helps a little.
The term for it is (hope I spell it right) aerophagia. Mine has gotten a little better. I have only woken to the excruciating pain 4 or 5 times in the last year. From what I've read here, I think one big cause is GERD. I took an OTC acid reducer for awhile last Fall and it really seemed to help.

You are NOT alone in this. Many of us have suffered from the same problem. If you'll use the Search feature at the top of the page and enter "aerophagia", you'll see many, many, MANY discussions of how to deal with the gas.

Hang in there! After four months, I'm finally not having so much of a problem with it, so for some it does go away at least in fart...part, I mean.

I actually don't get any extra gas from cpap.. but I have to admit thats probably because it's physically impossible for a person to make more gas at this point...lol.

I recall reading somewhere how a doctor was truly amazed to find a person who released 24 or so gas bombs a day... I mean..come on....amateur!

On one hand I am concerned about my impact on global warming. On the other, making your own fossil fuel is quite reassuring in the midst of an energy crisis.

Gas

Post by Arizona-Willie » Wed Jul 30, 2008 4:42 pm

From late afternoon on I am jet propelled. Don't know why it doesn't bother me until afternoon though. But it is under incredible pressure ... there ain't no holding it in or slowly releasing ... no way jose...if I was walking I would gain another 1/2 mph in speed against a headwind.

Hey Willie, are you retired, or did you just have to change your work schedule to accommodate your gas?

I really pity the guy who has to walk in to HR and have THAT discussion!!!! Oy vay! I think I'd try the GERD medicine FIRST!!!

Good luck all!!!!!

suspicion

Post by Arizona-Willie » Wed Jul 30, 2008 7:18 pm

I have a suspicion that my gas is a result of drinking carbonated beverages from about 10 am on.

I had a nissan fundoplication to deal permanently with severe GERD in '99 and now I have to work at belching. Probably all that carbonation goes in and can't come back up so it finds the only outlet left.

But I'm addicted < sigh >.

Lol. I wonder if they test Olympic competitors for gas. That extra half a mile per hour might just win you the hundred meter sprint Willie.

I guess leaving a trail of bubbles make it too obvious for water events.
