Dear All,
It has been a while since my last post.
I just wanted to share with all of you the benefits of drinking green tea for sleep apnea patients. Recent research (May 2008), has found evidence that Green Tea may help to your OSA. In short, chemicals found in green tea may be able to stave off the cognitive deficits that occur with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), according to a new study published in the second issue for May of the American Thoracic Society's American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
Moreover, green tea will help you to reduce weight!
Please note that this is not an old wife's tale.

Well, not sure sure about 'all the research' on green tea.
I'm a vegetarian, and drink only green tea and water and
only slightly overweight, yet have severe sleep apnea. Also
have a father and brother, both hoseheads for years and
would suggest family history (anatomy makeup/genes) has
a role to play as well.
Not discounting green tea, as its my favorite beverage.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. And remember - the richest person is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least.
I'm sorry, but I'm also a sceptic concerning the green tea claims. I tried placing a small "drop" of green tea extract into my coffee every morning for about 8 yrs. It was supposed to do all kinds of things for me, including "fixing" my prostrate and getting rid of OSA. Ah! but alas. Not so. I told the company to quite sending the small bottles in the mail - too expensive!

I use green tea, but am concerned about it being the product of tha year, tomorrow the may say putting a green tea bag in your cars gas tank will double your fuel mileage. If so I'll try that too. Jim
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Green tea can be harmful in large quantities
Green tea is good for you, but only if drunk in moderation. While the polyphenols in green tea are credited with preventing heart disease and cancer, it seems they can cause liver and kidney damage if consumed in very large quantities, a review of studies into the toxicity of polyphenols has shown.
Some people show hypersensitivity reactions with green tea. Others develop the condition after long-term use characterized by hives, swelling of ears, lips, tongue and face, difficulty breathing, closing of the throat and skin irritation. Another grave side effect that can be caused by heavy and long-term consumption of green tea is esophageal cancer. There are agents that remain and accumulate in the esophageal area leading to the development of cysts and tumors.
Too much green tea can cause a variety of side effects such as anxiety, insomnia, nervousness, irritability, mood swings, interrupted sleep, and cardiac arrhythmia.
It can also interact with other substances thereby causing problems. Do not drink tea if you're taking blood thinners like warfarin or Coumadin or it might cause hemorrhage or internal bleeding.
One Final Thought ...
As an aside, it's also been found that green tea can contain high levels of the pesticide DDT and a similar one called Dursba. So, if you do choose to drink green tea, you may be better off buying organic. This won't affect the fluoride content, but at least you will be spared drinking pesticides in your cup of tea.
