success at last( I think so anyway)

Post by shanrob » Sat Jul 26, 2008 8:40 pm

After 3 long months I had a great night using a Hybrid! I exhale through my mouth so that has made things more complicated with my leakage issues. Although on the face of it my results dont look that crash hot I'm pleased with progress. I've been lurking all this time, and I've found this forum marvellous- without it I'm sure I would have give up.
I've used 5 masks, taping, chin restraints( even making my own to no avail) and spent about $2000 australian dollars.

My results last night were-
  • leakage- .04 l per sec, AHI 9.3,, AI 1.3,
HI 8, usage time 9.45 hours. MY machine is Resmed S8 AutoScore 11, and I use an Aussi heated hose because its a cold winter down under in australia.

Congrats! ... and welcome!!

Yes ... your AHI is still a bit on the high side.

My experience with the Hybrid and it's high CO2 vent flow rate is that it does not work that well in APAP mode. The dead air space seems to affect the APAP sensor.

Try using it in CPAP.

What is your titrated pressure? Do you have software?

Best wishes

I also have a Hybrid, although I get better results with a ResMed UMFF. The hybrid will work better breathing through your nose and the hybrid will prevent leaks through the mouth. Therapy doesn't seem to work as well with your mouth open regardless of the type of mask. The hardest problem with the hybrid is keeping the nasal pillows from leaking when you move around or turn over. There are many posts that show ways of stabilizing the pillows. The pantyhose tights leg seems to be a common way of holding them in place as are rubber bands and fishing line.

Also agree that I do better in CPAP mode once you determine what that pressure should be through the APAP mode.

Thank you for your replies- DreamStalker and ww. I know my HI is a bit high but its so much better! I am in straight cpap mode as it will take some more use before I can get a APAP. I will make an appointment with the sleep doctor. I dont have software, I am reading the LCD display each morning and keeping daily records. The expense is a factor, I can only get $200 bak from my private health insurance- so I would really have to think about shelling out more money.

I did feel at times the nares were leaking, I remember adjusting them and that must have woke me. I will try using dental floss tonight. If I am using the Hybrid what else can I do about mouth leaks?
