Help I get hungry when I sleep and eat my Mask

Post by Colonel_CPAP » Sat Jul 19, 2008 4:19 pm

Alright, I have tried everything I know of. Also, I realize the ComfortGel Full is a piece of crap; however, until I get my new Ultra Mirage FF on Weds I do not have much of a choice. Anyway, does anyone besides me have the issue with the mask at night slipping into your mouth and you wake up basically eating the bottom of it. I would be led to believe the mask is too small so when I take and open my mouth at night (I'm a bad mouth breather) that it slides over my bottom lip into my mouth. If anyone has any idea other than a new mask (that is being taken care of hopefully weds), then could you please shed some light?
I have a papillow, and I take and tie a leg from some tights around the center portion of the mask and double starter knot it in the back. I one night used another leg tight and put it under my chin and tied it like a sling when you have a tooth ace. That only causes the mask to leak around the top for some reason. I never could get it to stop leaking so I removed the chin one and just went back to the one around the center.
I have posted a few of my reports, I just got a reader the other day.
And thanks,
hotlanta_pappuffer aka colonal_cpap

I use an Activa, and like you, I wake up trying to eat it. It hangs down over my mouth and I dream that there is food in front of me and I wake up trying to get the mask into my mouth. So far, no harm done.

Diagnosed 9/4/07
Sleep Study Titrated to 19 cm H2O
Rotating between Activa and Softgel

the mask is definitely the hardest part of the therapy. ... Finding one thats tolerable w /minimal leaks. hopefully your dme can get you fitted correctly . how's the analyzer working ?

Mask is still slipping into my mouth at night but it appears the either the software isn't detecting it or its still holding a seal one. The leak rate looks a lot better and my ahi is at .7 which is good.

Tony, do you feel rested when you get up ? discounting your leak rate those 8 sec. apneas are insignificant ....looks like your right on target !! BTW you resemble my youngest son in that avatar

apnea & hypopnea indices

Post by houltkin » Sun Jul 20, 2008 8:04 am

Colonel_CPAP shows the statistics from his xpap for thursday on this post. A couple of them are:

Total obstructive apneas 3 obstructive apnea index .3
Total Hypopneas 6 hypopnea index .7

Does anyone know the mathematical formula that would convert the number of occurrences to indices?

i believe it's just the number of events divided by the number of hours of sleep IE: tony had 3 apneas, slept for 10 hours, 3 divided by 10 = .3 AI

so you take the number of apneas and the number of hypopneas, add them together and divide them by hours slept, gives you the AHI

Just a little side note. I had the same problem when I tried to use the activa mask and couldn't since it was so big. I did contact the company and asked about a smaller size. I recieved a response from them saying that they were working on a smaller version of this type of mask and it would be going into trials soon. Guess time will tell.

Yeah, I feel good when I get up. Normal time of getting up is from 6am to 8am. My body simply says to me hey get up your fully charged. That helps me a lot also because since like many american's right now i was laid off and that is the last thing I wanna do is lay in the bed all day. It's not healthy and plus I'll go insane if i do.

I hope to get the leak rate down after weds visit to the dme. Again though my biggest complaint is the fact that the mask is sliding into my mouth at night. I would try the nasal instead of the full face but being I breath out of my mouth cause I have senus problems I'm not sure if the chin strap would be effective enough. I guess just like many newbies the quest for the right mask is a long journey.

A good rule with new masks, don't put the herbs and spices on it, save it for the Colonel's Chicken. Jim

Do yourself a favor - don't invest in the PurSleep "air candy" line. It can only make it worse.

I had the same problem; I solved it by taping my mouth.
