The last two nights...

Post by dieselgal » Thu Jul 17, 2008 2:56 pm

For the last two nights there has been something going on with me.
I have the M Series w/aflex and I use aflex which normally has been fine.
For some reason the last 2 nights it seems like I am hyper focused on the sound of my breathing both in and out and that I am for some reason breathing in a cadence that isn't quite natural for me. It is driving me nuts and I am getting VERY little sleep!
This is the same machine I have been using for several months and this problem just came up 2 nights ago. No changes that I could tell from the machine.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Check your software leak charts for those nights. My M Series Auto makes a lot more noise when there are leaks present and when taking deep breaths, which you normally don't during actual sleep. I hated that noise, but it seems to be more the sounds from the mask than the machine and certainly varies with the mask. Once a leak starts, the machine seems to keep pumping out more air for several seconds after the leak stops. I want a quiet machine and mask too!!!! Our solution so far was to buy a $10 20 inch box fan and run it on low. That quietened the noise down where you can't hear it anymore!!!!!

I recommend trying a Resmed S8II. Then you won't need to worry.

The problem isn't that I am not use to CPAP since I have been at it for over a year and a half. I am also wide awake when this is happening which leads me to believe it isn't leakage. I can usually feel a leak. This is probably something going on in my head but what is odd is that it started 3 nights ago.
I love my M series with Aflex and have had zero problems with it.

Read and post the leak you are getting when you hear the noise.

Try a short course of Benadryl or Melatonin or something to get you through this little period of weirdness.

Or switch over to Cflex. I couldn't get used to Aflex, and my reports showed it. I really slept badly with it. But you've been doing just fine with it. So, I'm inclined to think you're worried about something else, and focussing on the machine and keeping yourself awake.

A little Valium might be in order. Failing that, maybe a glass of wine?

Cheers,
Babs

The Aflex setting is changeable by simply pressing the button, if you happen to miss the On/Off button you can easily change that setting.

I would suggest putting it back to 2.

What are the other settings? What is the Min and Max pressure?

Are you using Ramp? if not, why not? it is there to help you fall asleep easier, if your minimum pressure is too high setup a lower Ramp pressure with a 30 minute timer and use it.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
