New Machine

Post by Magnum » Mon Jul 14, 2008 3:33 pm

Been using the new machine for about a week, Respironics M series setup the same as my old. CPAP at 12. ONe thing I noticed first using this machine is the pressure was a lot higher than my old machine, so there may have been a problem there.

Anyway going back to see a new sleep doc at the end of the month and wanted to see if I can get some info nailed down first.

1). I feel the humidifier up each night and on a setting of 3, all the water is about gone. My nose no longer stings in the morning, so I would say I am getting more humidity in there.

2). Here are some of my numbers for this week, feel free to let me know if they are good/bad.

OA Index1.1
H Index 1.5
Average AHI 2.5

Flow limitation Index .1 (not sure what that is yet)
Vibratory Snore index .7

Average Mask Lean 83.8
Average 90% Leak 61.9
Average Large Leak 14mins 13 secs

I may have found my leak problem. Seems it is a little hotter than normal in my bedroom and the tape is coming loose around my mouth. However a couple of nights I woke up with high leak rates, but no apparant reason as to why. But it seems even on the best nights the average leak is still above 25. and the max lowest has been 75.

Magmun,

Your numbers look pretty good to me other than those leaks.

I see you are using the Swift 11 nasal pillow mask, I use it to and I normally have high numbers so the forum members reccomended that I use AYR Gel or KY jelly to rub around the nares and slightly inside the nose to help seal the nasal pillows so that they will stay in place.

You large leak lasted for (14 minutes and 13 seconds), that's a long time! I can only imagine that the pillows slipped slightly out of your nose for that long period of time after switching positions and you we're most likely in rem sleep so you didn't notice...

You can purchase either product at Walgreens Drug Store, Walmart, and many other stores.

Sounds to me like you have the software and card reader or are you just looking at your data from the machine?

There is a website and I do not know the web address, but it will show you what the leak rate should be for the Swift 11, others here will let you know about that to!

Other's will be along shortly to give you alot of expert advice.

Goodluck,

SleepyNoMore

Ya gotta fix those leaks. With leaks that high I would think that the data for AHI is most likely wrong and is really higher than recorded.

What Brenda said ... the high leaks will cause misleading AHI numbers.

First things first ... get the leaks under control. Check to make sure all the hose/mask fittings are not leaking too.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

What Brenda and DS said ........

Using a full tank of water in eight hours with that pressure setting and mask is not normal. This is another indication that your leak rate is too high. A good portion of the humidified air is going straight out into the room bypassing your airway.

Work on the leaks.

Sorry for not posting back... was reading other posts as well:)

Yes, I suspected the results on the indexes were not accurate due to the leaks, and I can feel it. I was reading other recent posts on how to stop the leaks. Not sure on using the gel, but I may give it a whirl. I have no sense of smell unless something is right under my nose, then its overpowering.

Will keep looking for ways to seal my mouth, may have to try another mask, but hate to spend that much money just for tests.

As far as the humidity, even though it uses more water, I do have less sinus issues using this machine, so I won't complain about that.
