Swift LT users.. need advice

Post by tonedeaf1 » Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:50 am

Hi there. New to the forums. Thank you. Thank you. *bows*

Anyway, I'm a new CPAP user. Just over 2 weeks. After 2 weeks of struggling with my nasal pillow system, I decided to find something a little better suited for a side/stomach sleeper. Reviews seemed good on cpap.com for the Opus 360 and the Swift LT. Especially for side/stomach sleepers. I tried both at the sleep center and went with the Swift since it seemed slightly more comfortable.. especially the straps.

Anyway, I'm happy with my mask... 300% improvement over my last mask. And I'm probably 80% happy with the mask (I'm guessing I'll probably never be more than 90% happy.. But my issue is with the seal of the pillows. They are designed a bit differently than my last pillows.. and once I get a good seal I'm golden. But it takes me a while of fiddling with it to get it just perfect.. I can feel and hear leaks. What's even more irritating is if I wake up and need to take it off to go to the bathroom or something.. it's next to impossible to get it right again.. and by then I'm wide awake I've tried different sizes too.. medium definitely works the best for me..

So I'm wondering if anyone has any advice with this issue. Reading the reviews I saw very few people complain of this.. so maybe it's just the shape of my nose. But I figured it may be worth asking. I'm overall happy with my purchase though.. for the first time since starting the CPAP I've actually gotten a good night's sleep 2 nights in a row. Also thanks to reading this forum and finding advice on hose management has helped a lot too..

Thanks for your time

I'm glad you found this forum. Welcome =)

Try practicing adjusting your mask in front of a mirror. During the day while you're awake ;^) Move it out of place & then readjust while still under pressure. If you have trouble while you're awake, you have no hope in the middle of the night when you're half asleep.

Hi, a suggestion re middle-of-the-night bathroom visits. Don't take your mask off. Just remove the hose...make your visit...come back and put hose back on.

I can practically do this in my sleep now...but if I had to put on my headgear all over again...I'd be up all night, too.

I find that a little bit of lanoline on my nostrils helps with the seal. Also, it does take some adjusting to get it to fit "just right." making it too tight lessens the seal, too. Sometimes i can move the pillows slightly when they are in my nose and get a better seal. When it's just right, you can sleep standing on your head and it doesn't move!

Welcome! First, put the mask on before turning on your cpap. The pillows will puff up to seal once the pressure is turned on. If I try to fix a leak with the pressure on, it just won't work.
Also, routing the mask up and over the head helps with the fit/leaks. It takes away some of the weight and helps the seal. (I attach it to the spot on the Pap-Cap instead of the hard plastic adapter that came with it).
Leave mask on for bathroom runs.
