VPAP Auto

Post by Positive Air » Sat Jul 12, 2008 4:05 pm

I believe you are right in wanting the Resmed machine. In my opinion the Respironics machine does not come close to comparing to it. However, I would not get the VPAP Auto. The pressure range on the VPAP Auto is only between 4 cm H2O and 20 cm H2O. Yesterday, Friday, July 11th Resmed released a new version of the Auto known as th VPAP Auto 25. The pressure on this new release is between 4 cm H2O and 25 Cm H2O. In addition, there is a new heated humidifier called the H4i.

Tell your DME that you want the VPAP Auto 25 with the H4I Heated Humidifier.

Is the Malibu completely different? Some places it says it's Auto bi-level. It says up to 25 on the Malibu but it says it takes the 2i humidifier. Yes, I would like the newest Auto 25 + H4i, although I don't think I need much pressure or heat/humidity. DME will probably be annoyed that I want them to order this, instead of taking what they have in stock, lol. This is after I've made about 15 calls to try to get the VPAP Auto, which is still in progress.

I'm still waiting for my DME to bring me my VPAP Auto as well. After two weeks of keeping me waiting, the DME brought out to my apartment an auto bilevel, but one made by another company. (I probably shouldn't mention the brand name in order not to anger any RR fans. Oops. Did that just slip out? ) Anyway, the DME is supposed to bring out the VPAP Auto sometime this week. If they do, it will officially be the first thing they have done right. (They claim they ordered the wrong machine, before. So, apparently they keep nothing in stock. Either that or they are going to string me along until I have to drive over to where they are and have a little talk with everyone within earshot of my raised voice.)

I can't see what the 25 has that the Auto doesn't have, other than 5 more cm's of pressure--and 25 cm's would probably be enough to blow both my eyeballs out of their sockets the first night! I haven't heard anyone complain about the Auto, and since I don't know any added features on the 25, I hesitate to ask the DME for it. Besides, it isn't always a good idea to get something when it is first out, right? It could have kinks. Kinda like the principle of not buying the first year of a new model of car.

I'm inclined to agree. Unless you need a really high pressure, the VPAP Auto has only been available since Jan 08. That's why the VPAP Auto 25 came as such a surprise, along w/a Humidaire 4i integrated humidifier, coming out in Jul 08!!!

On the other hand, since your DME supplier has neither in stock, unless there is a real difference in price, what's the big deal which one they order for you?

Yes, the Malibu is an S7, NOT the same thing. You can tell by the use of the Humidaire 2i. There have been the S8 and now the S8 II since the S7s. Other than that I'm not familiar w/the Malibu other than recognizing the modell name.

Well, I finally found one who has the VPAP Auto in stock, supposedly. Now I have to see if it's going to be a hassle since the doc's order probably specifically said M Series Respironics, so I may have to work on getting specific approval for the VPAP Auto (or Auto 25). It seems like the Auto 25 has other plusses though, like it might be even quieter and have even better functionality as far as adjusting to breaths.
