Help, I think I've killed my Respironics REMStar!

Post by Life2PointOh » Sun Jul 06, 2008 8:21 am

I made the unfortunate error of packing & moving my Respironics REMStar Plus M-Series with C-Flex cpap while there was water in the humidifier resevoir. When I discovered it (about a 1/2 hour later) I tried to dry whatever I could reach inside the humidifier compartment, but I'm sure it's gotten into the motor area.

It has a loud whiny sound (much like my 2nd wife, I think) and isn't putting out much air. It's just over a year old & I imagine out of warranty.

Have I killed my CPAP? Is there any way to take it apart & dry it out? HELP!

Probably not! Unhook everything and let it dry out all as long as you can. I believe I had gotten water in mine at one point but it came up with an error code and would not do a thing. It needed to be replaced. I only moved mine up in the air to dust underneath it and "remembered" too late. Mine was still under the rental phase so there was no problem with exchange. I can't tell you about yours though.

Good luck!

PS I now take the water tank out every morning so as not to "forget" anymore.

There is a TWO year warranty on that device. AND the M Series is notorious for the ease of leaking water from the humidifier into the device so take it back to your local DME supplier you got it from and request a replacement. Hopefully you will get a Plus w/the newest "fix" for the integrated humidifier. If your local DME supplier gives you any grief about it contact Respironics yourself directly.

hook a shop vac up and suck the water out of it from the outlet side, hold machine vertical with hose outlet facing down and let the vac suck on it for a couple minutes, then turn it on and let it run for a while

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

The shop vac is a good idea as is holding it upsidedown to shake the water out. I would avoid plugging it into AC power until I was certain it was dry inside. Even if it was a day or two.

Believe it or not just water will not hurt it - it's when you put power to it that causes the problems. So if it gets wet just remove the ac power from the machine until it has completely dried out.
