EncorePro trouble. Can't get to home page.

I installed version 1.8i. And the DT3500 reader. I even downloaded data and posted it on the forum.

Then yesterday I went to download data, and when Encorepro started, it started with a prompt "connecting to database". Then "unable to connect to specified database".

And none of the buttons work. It's totally in a death loop.

I've read RestedGal's phenomenal thread on the software problems. But I am coming up without a solution. And even uninstalling this nightmare of a program is not trivial, evidently.

This feels like 1985 all over again, trying to load some early graphics program on an IBM 286. Does anyone remember Config.sys?

ARGH!

But hey, I think cpap is working for me. So how can I possibly complain!

PS- I tried installing over the install, and it doesn't like that either. It just won't do it.

Am I doing something braindead, or is there some explanation? I thought we were past the days of 1985 software. OK, carry on...

Down on the lower right part of your task bar there should be an ico for the SQL database ... make sure it is on before trying to open Encore Pro.

I did.

But maybe I did it incorrectly. There are three services. If I start the SQL Server, it starts and then stops on it's own. If I try to start the SQL Server Agent , it gives some failed dependency group message. Then there's the Distributed Transaction Coordinator. That starts, and runs. But I then get the same "cannot connect to server database" error.

It's not liking me.

Install/refresh right over top of the existing Encore installation. Make sure you use the defaults and don't create a new database. This usually works for misc. glitches related to the database association issues.

I tried to install over it again. It slowly goes to a login page where there are three choices. None of them work. They all end up with a failed connection to server.

The weird part is, I installed and ran the program without ever even seeing this particular setup box.

Actually it's Encorepro 1.8.49. I wonder if uninstalling is easier in this version.

Otherwise, I haven't a clue.

When troubleshooting software, it is always useful to mention OS ver & SP, yadda, yadda.
Have you tried a chkdsk? Did you have a power outage? Spyware or virus removal - any file re-arrangements or deletions? When did it work last?

You know, it may be that I had a power outage. I'm on a generator. And sometimes I get careless with the switch.

I've forgotten all about chkdsk. That's a flashback. With a forward slash f.

I'm afraid I'm not much help here. I just lost my beloved companion cat yesterday. And things are pretty dark right now.

I guess I'll goof around for a while, and see if it's possible to uninstall this program without the difficulty of the prior releases.

If the database is corrupt - you WILL have troubles.

I had problems re-installing that version of Pro on my Vista. Same SQL problems.. What I ended up doing and worked was to make sure that ALL of the SQL servers were totally gone. I found some in places that I would have never guessed them to be. After they were gone, I could re-install and it worked.

I just did a search for terms with sql in them. There are 140 files.

How on earth did you eliminate the server files? That would be a huge job to figure out which are associated with Encore.

It almost doesn't matter. My health appears to be so much better just over the last few days, I could care less about the reports. I'm even dreaming!

Sql be damned!

PS- Wulf, I posted after you did. I went into admin tools. There is an Encore server category. But nothing I goofed with helped.

HELP!

Is there anyone on this forum who knows how to COMPLETELY uninstall this program?

I've done everything I know how to do that. But when I come back in to install it, it says there is a previous version. And I can't intall it.

One of the problems is connecting to the server database. It just won't connect. It fails.

I had this program working. Now I'm at a complete loss.

At least I'm feeling like a human being for the first time in years. So I really cannot complain.

The following has worked for me in the past:

1) Save the ten files in this folder -

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$ENCOREPRO\Data\

some place safe so you can copy them back when you reinstall.

2) Then go through the unistall process.

3) Then check and make sure that following folder is deleted -

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\

4) Then reinstall Encore Pro and accept all defaults.

5) Then copy the ten files saved above back to the proper folder

Hey, I don't have that folder or the ten files.

And I looked in my recycle bin for them, in case I had deleted them in my effort to remove everything. Nope.

So I wonder how to approach this.

I'm working on another approach.

OK, I completely removed the entire set of directories starting with the one you mention. And the installation program sees my machine as having Encorepro installed. I've done regclean, adaware, manual deletions, and it still looks like I have the program installed.

And if I try to install the "advanced installation", it just goes to the next box where it attempts to contact the server, and then ceases with a failed connection server message.

That's all I can do.

In fact, I can't even close the install wizard. I have to go to the task manager to force it to go away. Oh man...

Therein lies your problem - ever do that chkdsk? Oh well too late now. Gonna have to do a system restore.
