really sore area inside of nose w/ nasal pillow-TMI?

Post by Guest » Mon Jun 23, 2008 9:13 am

TMI!!!

For some reason I can't log in again. I am using the Opus 360 nasal pillow...and have been for maybe 2 weeks. I'm having a problems with a really sore area inside my nose. I thought originally it was a place that was bloody that had scabbed over. But when I tried to clear my nose and get it out it was not bloody...kind of scabby in a way...but no blood. I don't know how to describe it. And it really hurts to remove some of it. But it is sore to leave it there. I've tried to put extra 'stuff' on it...lamisol(?), ky jelly...I was thinking of trying neosporin. I'm not sure what to do...or why it is there. It's only one nostril...I've had a 'problem' with that area for a little while before this...but nothing like this before. I thought maybe it was drying it out because maybe that's where the nasal pillow blows air into the side of my nose...but I dunno why it would have 'stuff' there and I dunno how to make it better. Anyone have problems like this or any suggestions on how to make it better?

Thanks!!!

Dealing with a sore nose

You might try a different type of interface, say a nasal mask until your nose heals.

I rarely sleep with the same interface two nights in a roe, so that my face won't be subjected to to the same pressures in the same places night after night.

Have you tried the Ayr Gel? That will help to seal the pillows and keep them in place a little better.

Your not sticking the pillows way up in your nares are you? They are supposed to sit just a little inside (not to be pushed) inside the nare.

You can find the Ayr Gel at Walmart or Walgreens, or any drug store I would assume!

Hope you get better soon.

BTW, I wouldn't be picking the scabs out yet, let them heal a little more before trying this, and are you using a Heated Humidifier? If not, try adding the HH moisture to your nose and it might help it as well...

thank u for the suggestions!!!

I do have a nasal mask I could use for a short while. problem is i am a stomach sleeper and find it difficult to sleep on my back or side...but i might try it temporarily. Can't get another mask for 2 months or so i think.

I haven't tried the ayr gel yet. my dr recommended a saline wash 1-2 times a day so I've been doing that. I'll look into the gel. Do you just use it during the day or right before you use the nasal pillows or both? I believe I am using the pillows correctly...they just barely go inside the nose. I have my humidifier set at 4 (out of 5 I believe). I was thinking of turning it down cuz I feel like the air was kinda stuffy to breathe in but not sure if I should because of the nose. I've been occasionally waking up feeling like I'm not getting enuf air...I think it is from my nose somehow...being a bit stuffy or inflamed...not sure exactly.

thanks so much!!

You can use the Ayr Gel anytime you like, they also make the Ayr Swabs.

As far as the Heated Humidifier, I would never have mine set above 2, seriously what keeps you from drowning? When mine is set on 2, I get rainout so I bought a Aussie Heated Hose and use my HH on 1 (winter & summer)! That just seems like way to much moisture for one poor nose to handle,

Goodluck and keep us posted.

Neosporin (suggested by my ENT) helped mine.

I seem to be especially dry, which I believe is what causes the soreness, (sores) and I definitely can't wear the interface that shoots directly up the nose.

I've had the best luck with the Comfortlite mask with the little triangle
'simple cushion' that sits over the nose.

Hope you feel better!

Just to let you know I changed to a Flexi Fit Mask and I slept like a dream. Woke up pain free.

I actually just switched from the flexifit 407...I don't think it fit my face right...too many leaks. Plus...painful if you want to sleep on your stomach!

I guess I need a mask that isn't there so it doesn't bother me.

The only thing I did was double my pillow, and slept kinda on the side of it. Worked for me but may not for you. I sleep funny anyway. But here is to hoping. Good luck. Also mine is the older 405 mask.

Try mentholatum, placed in and around your nostrils, not on the nasal pillows. I do it every night and the problem has been eliminated.

Try Aveeno Hydro cortisone creme on a Q tip and swab your nose during the day and mine healed up nicely!! I also use a humidifier set on 2.5 --I live in Arizona!! ANd I use the AYR gel at night. Good Luck!!
