Did you get filters with your CPAP

Post by Sleeprider » Wed Jun 25, 2008 11:43 pm

Just curious how many members got a fine filter with their XPAP. I only got the foam filter from Apria with my M-Series Auto.

Why ask? This is what Sacramento looked like today with all the area fires. How'd you like that blowing up your nose?

Fine filters with machine

Post by kteague » Thu Jun 26, 2008 2:03 am

I didn't know the machine had a filter with the first one. Got another one 2 years later and was given 2 foam filters and a bag with a handful of the fine filters and was told to let him know if I ran out and he'd drop me off some more.

Apria did give me 2 fine filters with the machine. I can get 2 each month, but I have to call and order them each month.

My Remstar Pro came with fine filters.

I got it from Apria.

I called Apria this morning.

"Oh, you have the M-Series, the small one? That doesn't require filters"

Me: "But filters are available for the unit and our air quality sucks this week. The foam filter isn't good enough"

Apria: "Oh Ok, we'll have those shipped out to you."

Once again, this forum comes through.

SleepRider... I live 3 hours South of you and we also get your's and all the in-between air. Kinda like being the recipient of a few million people's farts!

Well, Monday I though I'd cool the house down a bit with the whole house fan, so I opened the windows turned it on and jumped in the shower. When I got out it was bad and going into the bedroom it was really bad! My poor wife said the thought was sweet but it didn't work out so well.

That night I got in bed and put on my mask and the autostart APAP kicked in and I though I was going to puke in the mask. I didn't say a word but won't be doing that without checking the air quality first for a while.

You're going to ask anyway so I might as well tell you I was in my cave all weekend working without the TV and not aware the the fires were that bad.

Oh, and yes I have both the fine and course filters, but I pull my hose off the humidifier to let it dry and it was the source.

I got 2 with my first machine which I returned after 2 months (thought they were shysters until I met DME#2) . When I asked fot the white filters from DME #2 I was told it did not need them and until the 13 month rental was up it was still their machine and I would get what it needed which was none. Found out they had a clause in the contract I signed (I did not read it close enough) that said they did not supply small items. When asked to define small items I was told filters, hoses, nasal pillows and things like that.

SleepRider - can you please provide the name of the Apria branch that told you that nonsense. Certain people "in the know" may want to call them.

Also, All NEW M Series come with part number 1029416 inside, which is 1 Pollen Filter (the black one) and 1 Ultra Fine Filter (the white one). This is common knowledge.

May I also suggest that in addition to coming onto a forum and complaining, you kindly ask for the name of the person giving you that ridiculous information? Then you call back, ask for the business owner and explain what occured.

Just my 2¢.

Hello SleepRider,

I know the feeling of all that SMOKE, I am having a very hard time breathing today as I live a couple hundred miles South of you and i'm sitting down here absorbing it all AND, it just sits here unless we just happen to get a little bit of wind to blow it out for a couple of hours... Then here it comes again, they are warning us to stay indoors, that goes for the healthy people to!!!

Take Care,

Ummmmm....... With all due respects, I didn't read his post/poll as "complaining"......merely asking a question about who received the fine filter(s) with their machines when they were purchased. Many new users have no idea what they're SUPPOSED to be getting with these machines until they compare notes with other users. All too often, they're just handed a box of "stuff" and sent on their way to figure it out for themselves. Other times it's delivered to their homes by a delivery service (UPS/Fed Ex) or just dumped off by someone from the DME's shop.

If you're really part of this industry and have any clout, my suggestion would be to start kickin' some A$$ with the so-called "customers" (DMEs).

But, I agree with the rest of what you said.......but the new users don't know and are being led around by the nose.

Sleeprider,

I didn't vote in your poll because I purchased my equipment from CPAP.COM and received two foam filters and two fine filters......plus, I also purchased a number of extras of both. I've never actually used the fine ones, but I have them in reserve if I feel the need. A couple of years ago, we had some forest fires in this area, too, but since we kept the house shut up all day and all night, the amount of smoke (in the house) wasn't really noticeable.

Good luck with your situation.

I sure apprecieate the replies. To be honest, I don't know what I should hve received. It seems the fine filter and extra foam filter were removed from the unit I received May 28, 2008, and I got a CFlex unit, not the newer Aflex.

Who?..Call
(916) 921-1162 and option 2 for CPAP supplies and information.

Air quality is awful here right now. It is the worst in many years with an AQI index of 190 for particulate. with high ozone. An AQI of 50 is unhealthy. The Elite Western States Endurance run from Tahoe to Georgetown was canceled for the first time in 30 years.

I don't have any frickin' fine filters because my DME doesn't think they are necessary for the Remstar M-Series Auto, so they don't supply it!

Thanks to this forum, I learned I should have received a supply, and didn't get it because my DME doesn't consider it "necessary". Since when did a DME decide what was necessary? Why did they remove even the included supplies? We live in an area of poor air quality, and normally I have no problems. We are in an exceptionally bad air quality episode and I have to wait for filters to be mailed. I think that's wrong.

Will the filters really help with this? What about all the hours w/o the machine?

One each

Post by PocketDragonFriend » Fri Jun 27, 2008 6:08 pm

My machine came with one of each filter. I ordered more on Ebay.

I have to change them every week. The foam one is easy to just wash (and I have a spare) but the white ones get all gray in a week and start aggravating my asthma.

The hardest part is trying to get them back in the machine squarely. They always seem to be crooked.

LOL--Might be worth having it one while your up and the air quality is so bad. It might help filter out the worst of the smoke.
