Cant sleep 8 hours

Post by lebedjev » Fri Jun 27, 2008 12:02 am

Something is strange. Before CPAP I used to sleep like 7 hours. But now, after a few months with CPAP I wake up 4 in the morning, full of energy, I just cant fall back to sleep again. Have to go up! After 5-6 hours of sleep. Last night I slept 4,5 hours. And I dont feel sleepy during the day. Anyone else with the same problem?

That actually sounds like a good thing.

I think I'm still paying back my sleep debt. I do get up after only 4-5 hrs but have either go back or take a nap later. Pay me now - or pay me later, ha.

I say, good for you!!

You are probably getting more real sleep in that 4 or 5 hrs than you ever got in the 7 or so hrs before cpap. Give it more time. You should see that you start to sleep a bit longer as you become more used to the machine and mask. I rarely sleep more than 6 or 7 hrs now and I used to need about 9 hrs. As long as you're feeling good I wouldn't worry too much.

Lots of people go through that. I think it took me about 2 months for my body to gradually readjust back to my normal 7 to 8 hour sleep nights.

The same thing happened to me. I "outgrew" it though. Now I sleep for about 7 hours before I wake up.

I sort of cycle up and down. I think it's often stress-related. When I'm feeling stressed, for some reason I wake up earlier and earlier. Right when I NEED more sleep.

Then I'll sleep just fine - 7-8 hours for awhile - then cycle back into waking up early.

I'm currently combatting early arousal with a cocktail of 1 Benadryl, 2 Tylenols, and 1 Flexeril (I have back pain issues) before bed. It's working VERY NICELY. But it's just a temporary thing. I think I'll NOT use it tonight, and see how it goes.

Good luck!
