Should I leave machine on when mask comes off for a tinkle..

Post by Hugh Jass » Fri Dec 17, 2004 9:06 am

Tonight will be my 3rd night with a Remstar Auto (soon to be traded for the new Remstar Auto with C-Flex).

I adjusted to using it right away. I actually look forward to it at night...

I'm disappointed that I'm still waking up 3-4 times to go to the bathroom since I thought this would be resolved once the Apnea was taken care of.

I've been removing the mask and leaving the machine running while I visit the can.

Is this the right thing to do, or should I be turning it off each time ?

Onc concern that I have is that the readings from the smart card are going to indicate that there is a leak in the mask, when in fact, there isn't.

Thanks in advance for help.

Greetings Hugh,

I would turn it off. The machine needs a break too.

Hugh Jass, lol what a funny name.

I aways leave my machine ON. If I turn it off...the sudden sound of ...."QUIET" causes my wife to suddenly "Wake Up"... SO, to keep peace , I just let it run.

Doesn't the remstar have a auto on/off mode. Should switch off / restart automatically when you take off the mask...put it on..

Cheers,

Chris

The REMstar Auto has an auto-on function and an auto-off function. Either of these functions can easily be disabled.

I leave mine running when I go to the bathroom because it makes my detail reports easier to read. Otherwise the reports indicate two (or more) separate sleep periods.

BTW - I can't convince my bladder that it shouldn't wake me up now that I'm on CPAP. So it looks like we are in the same boat there.
I got used to wearing contacts & braces, and now I'm used to CPAP, too.

I have a REMstar auto. I leave it running if I get up during the night. Like Edie, I'd rather not interrupt the single night report that I look at with the software the next morning.

There is an alarm feature on my Remstart Plus with C-flex. You can disable the alarm in the user setup.
I don't do mornings !!!

Hello

If you take your mask off it would help to shut it off.....But there are some CPAP machines that has a automatic feature. when it detects that your mask is off or not been worn it will automatily shut it's self off.

I have the S6Elite Sullivan and it has this speical feature, If the mask is not been worn it shuts it's self off after I I take the mask off the tube ie:toilet break at night. But when I replace the the mask on the tube and take a breath the machine it switch it's self back on again and I fall asleep again.

But I think it may be mulfunctioning on me or I am forgetting to take a breath for exceedinly long time and I find the CPAP shuts it's self off! It often wakes me up most of the time ,as the machine sometimes thinks I have taken off my mask! Gee wihizz, Nothing like instant suffocating to wake you up!!!

But it is rare it does that.....As it wakes me up, the time I spend without pressureized air is short as when it switches off I know about it wake up and swtich it back on again!!!
Been on CPAP for a while.....I had moderate apenoa
