Take a look at this report..............please???

Post by johnsack » Thu Jun 19, 2008 8:06 am

I am new to this CPAP thing and am trying to just figure out what report I need to focus on. I have posted this if you could take a peek and tell me what you think. http://tinyurl.com/5rpt5h

Again, I am new to this forum and also to the CPAP thing. I am working on getting rid of leaks and I know I have a long way to go to get the best results.

I am rather new at this also and don't use bi-pap but those numbers look extremely high to me. The mask leaks are so high it is hard to tell about the numbers presented.

What kind of mask are you using?

What was your AHI before you started treatment?

_Sorry about the mask question. I didn't look hard enough to find it.________________

Hi Johnsack,

Your leaks are so high that you are not getting therapy. Nor can your machine measure your events properly. Since I don't use that mask, I'm hoping that others will chime in with some suggestions.

Good luck,
Cathy

IMHO - yes those are relatively high leaks but not *large* leaks when events aren't recorded. I was told that range of leaks is borderline.

With that high an AHI and high pressures, I would call my sleep doc and get his/her opinion. You don't want to be sleeping with that many events.

Mindy

That was my first night with a better fitting FF mask. My DME had me in the wrong size so those numbers are actually an improvement. I will try sleeping on my back tonight, I think I was knocking the alignment off from sleeping on my side last night. I will make some changes for tonight and see what tomorrows report looks like. I like the nasal mask better but I seem to be opening my mouth with the nasal mask and have not had much luck taping (I feel like I am not getting enough air when I tape, I got some Breath Right strips and am thinking that by using one of those I may feel better if I tape) If I end up napping this afternoon I may try tape with the breath right and see how that goes.

John,

Those are some high numbers. One word of caution re: sleeping on your back.
For a LOT of people, including myself, back sleeping makes the apnea much WORSE, causing the need for even more pressure.

I know you're wanting to try to not knock the mask loose, but maybe try messing around a little with your position and pillow when you're not dead tired.

It definitely takes a while to get all the kinks out, but don't put off returning to your Dr., if it continues to look like you're not getting proper therapy.

I hope you can find a good solution to your mouth breathing. That sounds like a BIG issue.

Best of luck to you. Keep checking back in, as I'm sure some others more knowledgable than myself will chime in.

Those leak rates look terrible. Something is badly wrong there.

They're not good but they are still not defined as *large* leaks and it is "large leaks" that result in cessation of recording events.

Note that the pressure and mask determine what the leak rate should be. If someone is on a high pressure then a higher leak rate *may* be normal depending on the mask. Some masks are not even rated for that pressure.

If that were the case, than the leak line would be steady and flat.

This one is up and down all over the place.

That, not so much as the leak number, to me indicates that the mask is repeatedly coming sealed and unsealed. Which is the problem, esp. on an auto machine I would think.

what Mindy said and I suspect your problem may be with the Quattro, that mask has been known to leak 4 times as bad as any other mask at the elbow.

You need to toss out that data from the report and try another mask, the one you have is defective or not fitted properly.

You did real good up until your EPAP pressure got above 11 cm
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
