Issues with adjusting

Post by kteague » Thu Jun 12, 2008 12:01 pm

Hi. Yes, those first few can weeks can be rough. You mentioned your legs hurting - did your sleep studies make any mention of limb movments? Just wondering if anything else might be going on besides the apnea. Do you have copies of your test results to check out the limb movments?

Kathy

SingleMom, did you say that you had complained to your doctor? If not, that's what my next call would be. Surely if you tell your doc that it's not working, you were given an ill-fitting mask and no option, etc., he/she will help and make the necessary calls. Someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but if a physician writes a prescription for a specific - or even just different - piece of equipment the DME must fill the prescription, whether they like it or not.

Please keep us posted. If you're really a "single mom", you need to have your wits about you!

Sore legs huh. I am taking several meds to help with the nerve damage to the CNS the hypoxia has created. It might be that you an issue with the distal supply of oxygen? Perhaps your tissues are not not getting enough oxygen. I took Klonopin at first, and then got switched to Lorazepam, 0.50 mg 1 to 2 x a day or quartered a pill as needed. The Loraxepam is now at 1 mg 3 x a day. It does fine except for those longer treks. This takes care of the muscles spasms in the legs. An also on a beta blocker, Inderal to slow the heart rate down. What's yours? My problem has been chronic, involuntary hyperventilation, awake and asleep. Although I think I hypoventilate after the hypervent. starts screwing around with the transfer of oxygen and carbon dioxide. I get tetany, in the legs, arms, most all muscles and then they start to cramp up. this is when I get deep aching pain. So maybe you hyperventilate?

My nose is also sore, and intend on going to see the store therapist today about it. Which I did. and got a large in the full face mask. The guy tried to give me nasal pillows but couldn't come up with a good way to keep my mouth shut when I told him I wore a guard. So we'll see how the large size does to keep my nose from becoming an open sore.

you mentioned your legs bother you in the morning. Did your sleep study show PLMS (periodic limb movement disorder)? Mine did and when my sleep is worse...my leg movements are worse. Also, if you treat your apneas but not your legs...your legs can still keep you from getting a good sleep. Just a thought...
